Could the absurd computer hacking in Live Free or Die Hard really happen?
I was watching Live fee or Die hard last night and was wondering if really causing the U.S. to shutdown like that could happen, or does the F.B.I. really have a superior lets say firewall.

Pretty neat movie...just watched that last night myself. I've always wondered how we'd all survive without the 'amenities' that we take for granted, just to think as few as 100 years go there wasn't even central heat in homes.

Haven't seen the movie but I'll say no based on the fact that hollywood always does hacking scenes wrong.

They put stuff like this in movies because most people know all of jack shit about computers. Not only is it used in the movies for the plot, but also for these computer inept people to have "omg?!?!1//" discussions about it after the movie ends. Whereas, people who actually know about computers just think "lol" to themselves when it happens in the movie and just dismiss it as another "where did the 7th thru 43rd gear shifts come from in your supra vin deisel?" movie moment.

How they did it in the movie, doubtful, but it if one were smart enough with enough hardware to crack the FBI, FAA and all of that it is possible to shut down the country, however hacking just the FBI and FAA would set off numerious alarms and would never be compleated
