Computer people help please, Vista problems

Hey, I just jumped on the Vista bandwagon and got a full copy of Ultimate. Just did a fresh install and am working on getting all my software up and running, but I have noticed a substancial problem. Its detecting 2687mb of RAM when I have 4 gig's in there. Hell with PAE enabled I had more then that with XP! What gives?

are you running 2x 2 gig sticks? or are you running 4x 1 gigs? If you are running 2x 2 gig sticks..run them on the same bus. (i.e) put them right next to each other..not staggered, try that

PS second problem... when i plug my other harddrive back in, the computer automatically boots to it and its XP Pro... i want some old files off of that drive, but its not letting me pick which drive to boot from, and there are no jumpers that i can find on these SATA drives... what gives?

Does your BIOS see all 4 gigs? 32 bit or 64 bit of Vista?

Make sure you've updated your motherboard and CPU drivers to support windows vista. MORE critical if you've built your own system.

For your sata problem, make sure your vista drive is in the sata 1 port, if your XP drive is in a lower number of the sata port it will boot off that, you can also create a boot partition in the bios, i'll have to remember how i did mine, but its a pain in the ass....I'm dual booting vista and xp, vista on a single core CPU SUCKS!

the sata orders probably the problem, didnt know it went like that, couldnt figure why the bios didnt just list the freakin things to change boot priority like harddrives have been since dos.

as for the ram, i had twin crossfire cards so i have a gig of video ram, the computer sure as hell better not be using the sys ram too!

Your only problem is you jumped on the Vista bandwagon. Hop back over to XP for now. There are still plenty of compatibility issues with Vista.

right...to bad that microshaft made the system "look nice" on desktop instead of making the system work properly.

You need to tell you BIOS you are running a 64-bit OS. Or there should be some setting like "Remap Memory"

There is a setting in the BIOS that you can set to chose the boot order.
