Computer gurus help....How can I erase EVERYTHING from my hard drive?
I want to erase everything including windows. How do I go about it? Actually, I'm running Windows XP Pro and I want to re-install Windows 98. When I run my restore CD, nothing happens. Windows XP is still there. Any thoughts? Is there something I can do in DOS? Thanks for any help!!

Format.
You need an actual system disc for Winders '98.

AutoClave works the best. you can complete multiple passes on your hard drive to ensure that everything is gone. in most cases the formatting program on the Windows disk works just fine. but ive always used AutoClave. JMO.

If you never want anyone to find your data, I suggest an acid bath, I hear that works best, because parts can still be salvaged if you use a drill.

You need a boot disk with the fdisk command. This is a menu driven dos command that removes partitions. You will need to remove the nondos partition and then create a fat32 partition and make it active. Reboot with the boot disk again and then format and then install windows 98.
