I admit that I am curious about them. An electric car would be feasible for about 95% of my workdays -- I trip as little as 4 to 30 miles on most days with occasional travel days running 80 to 100 miles.

What happens to the fuel in the tank and/or fuel system if the car never sees enough miles to run the engine? Then one day you need the engine to run. Will fuel be solidified, injectors clogged, etc.???

I saw one of these at the NY auto show. The one I was looking at was fucking 43k!

The honda "sporty car" hybrid.... Fucking 2 seater and I think that one was 30 somethng. The hybrid and electric technology makes sense and its worth trying to master it and develop it, but the costs of these vehicles and the execution of them are missing the mark imo. Economical car..........But you need to make 6 figures to fucking afford it lmao

Let's see, 43 grand for 60 months, about $810 a month. And an 8,000 dollar battery replacement in 4 or 5 years. If I drove 4,000 miles a month it would equal a new Impala or Malibu in payment & fuel cost. If I drove 48,000 miles a year this thing wouldn't last 60 months, nor would I suffer through driving the tin can.
Technology will eventually get us a reasonable car run on alternative fuel, but it ain't happnin yet. Hats off to GM for spending millions trying, someday maybe.
Just for laughs, at Barrett Jackson last year GM sold a 1998 s-10 with a camper shell on it full of batteries and an electric motor under the hood. No frills except a Kerosene heater, it cost $35,000 new.
No miles on it to speak of, fresh out of the collection,
    $5,800 bucks.

    You be the judge.....

I dont know what the warranty is on the volt in terms of powertrain but i doubt people are gonna be spending 8k in 4 or 5 yrs for the battery.

I was a toyota tech and I saw one Prius battery get replaced on an 01 model last year. The hybrid battery packs dont fail like people wanna think they do. Sure theres gonna be a few here and there across the entire country, but its not like this "oh 5 yrs have passed batteries probably gonna shit soon"

This is the main reason I wouldn't get one. If it was 25k, it might be a serious consideration.

How much does it cost to charge these? Everyday right?

cost of ownership or even how the powertrain technology even works....these are questions you'd have to ask people at the dealerships or search for a tech article online. I'm not sure, but if you put a gun to my head I think the Volt operates similar to other hybrids. I'm not even sure if its a plug in. The Nissan leaf however is full electric and 100 miles to a charge

I wouldn't buy one (yet) but I think it's great techology. Makes much more sense than an electric, at least until they can find a way to improve the range and charge times.

Hopefully if it catches on, they can bring the price down to a more reasonable level. It's like anythign else, a new technology is always going to be expensive. Look at LCD tv's or blu-rays...so expensive when new, but look how prices dropped as the technology caught on.

As far as the gas, I read that engine will start itself every 60 days if not used to keep everything circulating, and that it uses a special pressurized tank to keep the gas from going bad.

A co-worker bought one ... one of the first in Texas, I believe.

He lives about 16 miles from the plant where we work, mostly rural highway.
It couldn't make it to work and back on a charge.

And on gas, it only got about 30mpg.

    He sold it.

They claim $1.50/day with normal usage and should charge it daily.
