changed my oil today and almost fainted !
Got under the car to take off the drain plug and I turn the bolt and its loose ! I was like O MY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How in the world that happened I will never know. Last time I changed the oil I tightened it good. I would have died if the bolt would have backed all the way out and all my oil leaked out. Thank God up in heaven that didnt happen

you would have driven a few miles and a piston would have shot through ya hood. then park the car and hitch a ride... damn! you're lucky. I had one interesting experience when a good coworker took his 350Z at Nissan for oil change, we get lunch come back, his car is set so we take off. about 10 minutes later he gets a call from the mechanic on the cell phone saying "oh, I forgot to tighten the bolt" wtf? so should I pull on the side or what? he's like, if you're not far away just drive... but I'll be right there to jack it up and tighten it good.
my coworker has 40k miles on it, I was like, dude just freaking drive it man, Nissan will give ya a brand new spanking engine

There is a lot of threads on those bolts. Along with a rubber seal that helps it from backing out and keeps the oil from seaping out.
Hand tight shouldn't ever be used, but it should stay on there that way.
