Cat brain simulated
Am I the only one intrigued by this?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/18/i...mans-are-next/
If they were able to fully model a human brain in real time then the ability to scan a human brain would be next. The final piece in that puzzle is wether your consciousness could be transferred to a machine. Put it all together and you've just become immortal baby!!! It'd be like those heads from futurama only without the head!
Seriously, let's say you are 90 and filthy rich and you have just days to live. The doctor says we can save you but you will need to give up your body. You will live inside a computer.... and you will have 1Tb Internet access 24/7 oh and since you will live in the machine you will never need to sleep or eat. you can play FPS games and surf the web for all eternity!
Does that even slightly interest anyone?

The sad thing is, by the time I'm 90, the kind of computer needed for that will prolly be dirt cheap.
Its pretty fucking awesome... some of the breakthroughs we see in our life time are going to be what seems like sci-fi today. Man, I need to go to college for some seriously high-speed science shit.

I don't think I'd want to be limited to life in a box and be awake 24/7 for eternity

it really wouldn't be you though... your life would end but the consiousness inside the "system" would live on.... that still is not your consiousness as yours would have ended...
it would be like having an identical twin and you die.. the other lives on but it is not you. what is the point? might be good for people that love you because you will sort of still be around but your own consiousness is dead.

Fuck that.
It's only your mind.
You have no body. And thus you would have none of the sensations gained through physical functions of the body. You can't taste, you can't laugh, you can't masturbate or orgasm, you can't scream bloody murder and rocket your flat screen off the desk with a single hand when someone gets a cheap kill on you in counterstrike.
As much time as you guys think I spend on the internet, I would be severely disappointed if the internet was all I had.
I don't consider myself a very religious person, but I'd rather take my chances with death, than live as an electrical circuit in a machine for the rest of eternity.

if they can simulate your mind they can figure out to add sensation... it all translates to interpreation that is either good or bad. you get a blowie and your brain tells you it is good, touch fire your brain tells you it is bad.
it all comes down to electrical impulses of on or off just like a computer.Last edited by krese; 11-18-2009 at 11:16 AM.

Duh, so program a real to life simulation that you brain would be loaded into, where you can interact with all the other people who have been "uploaded", have the ability to sleep programmed in, hell by that time, they should be able to mimic all of the sensory inputs so that its the same as the real thing. Sex would be just as good! (except all the guys could be packin meat swords if they wanted and the chicks could design their own breast size before they went it)
I mean hell, if the future sucks, you could even set it in a different, more prosperous time, like you know, the year 2000, when everything was going great!
Wait a second....

i think every one is also taking this out of context... they onyl simulated a small part of the brain... not the entire thing... that would be near impossible...
