i went to the local GM dealership today and asked a salesman about the new 2009 pontiac vibe cuz its completly redesigned and about the new HHR SS. the g/f is wanting and gonna be needing a new car soon and i just wanted info on when these new cars will be out so i can look at em. he goes to find out and comes out and says, "i got a secret for ya- on the vibe we dont know exactly the date yet, but should be soon." then he asks how i know about the HHR SS, he wanted to know if i saw something on an internet forum or something.

i was like yeah, its on chevy's fucking website dumbass. he was dumbfounded. he said he and the managers never heard of it and asked me that if i found out when it came out to come back to them and let them know!!! it was supposed to come out fall 2007. fucking tools!!!!

How can you sell a product you know nothing about? When I bought my Z the salesman knew absolutely nothing about it except for the KBB price.

I feel a personal need to chime in here.

Not all car salesmen are stupid. Yes, there might be some dimbulbs out there, but ask me anything about the product I represent and Ill tell you more then you could imagine. Same goes for my father, who has been selling cars for over 30 yrs. Ask me about used cars on my lot, and usually I can hang pretty good. I will admit to having been at a loss when it came to a damn Prius, but thats because I've had very little to do with them. However, ask me about the 350z or the S2000 I took in trade and I could write you a book. Making a blanket statement about a profession in your thread starter is going to elicit some kind of response.

Doesn't sound like you really have to know that much about cars to be able to sell them. (I used to be a car salesman by the way - a really lousy one).

I know dumbass plumbers/electricians and one dumbass dentist. I know a couple of dumbass car salesman. And I know some that know their entire product line and their competitions entire product line and can school that ass.
My rule. If I know more than you do about what it is I am buying then I probably will move on to somebody that knows what in the hell they are selling.

I guess I'm a little different. I don't expect the car salesman to know everything about the car. As long as they have the basics I'm good with that. I figure before I go buy a car I've spent the last month on the web and at forums learning everything I can about the car. I don't expect a salesman to do that really. As long as they're good on the basics and don't argue with me when I drop some wisdom on them it's all good. The same goes for the parts people at the stores. I research and know what I want before I get there so I don't have to rely on them for information. I personally want to know what's up before going in.

car salesman are trying to make a living. its impossible to know every last detail about every car. but they should know the basic info about the product they sell. Car selling is really a numbers game.

i'm pretty sure the vr6 is the turbo, a guy i used to work with had one.
