can i get a gun permit

want to get a gun permit but i was reading the Feeral law 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), , that says if u have ever been convicted of a crime that carries a year or more sentence you cannot possess or own a gun. i was convicted of a jailable misdeamenor( non violent crime) and recieved a sentence of over a year.( 30 years ago) does anyone know if a misdemeanor precludes one from owning a gun?

Calling your local Sheriff or CCW issuing office would be able to answer your question best. Each state varies in its statues.

Do you mean a conceal and carry permit or just a permit to own a firearm?

That's like saying go ahead so we can arrest you again.....

First step is to move out of any state that requires you to get a permit to own a GOD GIVEN RIGHT.

Have you tried contacting this government admin? Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security at 617-727-7775. I would ask them if they know if your charges will stop you from getting a firearm permit. Sometimes they just ask a bunch of questions about the incident and make their decision based off of that.

I wonder how many and what states other than Massachusetts require you to get a permit to own a gun?

Thankfully, you can leave Oklahoma out of that list. I just recently bought my first gun (Springfield XD40) at a local sports store and all it took was me filling out a form, a 5-10 min background check and a credit card.

As a deputy sheriff, we have people that are unsure apply all the time. In PA, you can't have any M1's or any drug/domestic violence arrests.

    apply..see what happens...

    Here is what I found
    MA
    NJ
    IL
    HI
All require a permit to buy any gun

    CA
    MI
    MN
    NY
    CT
All require a permit to purchase handguns only.

These rules could have been altered with all the gun laws being proposed and voted on.

WI may swing dem during presidential election but we have a repub majority at our state level, governor is conservative and we love guns. We have open carry and CCW as well as the castle doctrine and are a huge hunting state.
