    Can I beat him?

I have a friend of a friend who is going to be buying the new Ford Shelby GT500.

Will I be able to take this guy or not after I get my D-1SC on? I am thinking I should be able to beat him by at least a full car, or more, but I don't want to be running my mouth too hard and then get my ass handed to me
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

yes... but only if you get a taller gear... the 4.11's are going to kill your traction with FI... 3.73 is plenty of gear...

Is his the 540 hp version?

All I know, is my '01 ProCharged WS6 would totally blow the tires off it once it'd start making boost.........and it had stock gearing w/Nittos.

I'd definitely put this as a traction & driver's race. (most are, but just sayin)
    This one's a coin flip!

Hell yeah you can beat him when you have the blower. If you can hook... It will boil down to who hooks first if you both know how to row the gears. Those cars are notoriously horrible for hooking on the street with stock susp. and tires. As far as gear goes I would say go with a 3.70 gear if you plan to keep it as just a M6/D1SC car. If you plan to get more in depth into it then go with the 3.50 gears.

You cant, you should give me your car instead of even trying.

Hahaha.....I would say possibly. Drivers race if you can hook up. You are lighter and will make probably the same power? Like others have stated, they have issues on stock rubber and with most of the GT500 drivers that are out there I am betting he is not a great shifter.

Get traction and you may want to swap out those gears.

Traction is kind of what I figured my issue would be. Right now, which I know is a lot different, I hook on the Nitto DR's without even a bark shifting into 2nd. Granted I am only at 330rwhp, but the car's suspension is set-up pretty nicely.

As far as the gearing goes, I couldn't agree more. When I got my 4.11 gear, I only chose it because I knew I would be able to enjoy that gear for a few years before ever going to FI. FI came a year early though so now I just have to deal with it I think.

Any idea on what the cost to me would be to swap out my center section on the 9" for a higher gear as mentioned?

This was last summer, the Gt500 was a 2009 or 2010

How much of a difference will I see in traction on the street between my current Nitto DR's (275/40R17's) and a Mickey Thompson DR in the same tire size?

MTs are soft and sticky... but dont last last long like the nitto DR.

make sure to get the MT DR not the et streets (bias ply)...

Nitto makes a new DR, that is suppose to be very sticky and soft too,

    Hmmm.

Anyone with first-hand experience between the two tires on the street?

My Nitto 555R DRs are like brand new...got them last summer. I don't really want to fork out another $450 for tires . I rather put that towards a new 9" center section.

I have not tried the MT DR's but I do use the Hoosier DR's and they are damn good for hooking on the street. Just ask the 2011 SuperSnake I raced... LOL! Go for the center section first over tires IMHO. You can sell your old center section.

(just a question) Why are you buying another center section? (for changability?) To get by for a while, a new set of gears is only a few hundred bucks - another center section is upwards of $1,000 with a good posi unit and new gears.
