Question Can an exhaust tip change the sound?? *pic*

Here is the tip I have on my Jeep. When I got my glasspack installed, the mechanic said it would sound different if I removed the exhaust tip. I call bullshit. Thoughts??

not very much... the muffler/resonator controlls most of the sound...

it can, but what spaz said. Basically this is what controls exhaust sound
    1. engine configuration ie V, inline, W, Rotary, etc
    2. displacement
    3. firing order
    4. headers/manifolds
    5. pipe diameter
    6. pipe length
    7. pipe bends
    8. cross over pipe
    9. Muffler, resonator etc

they all have an effect. The tip is not gonna effect the sound as much as the muffler itself, but it can to a small degree.

I heard he passed on the blinker fluid because it needed the purchase of elbow grease in order to get it installed.

one time someone made the blinker fluid joke to me, and I said "no, f-bodies fill the blinker fluid by themselves, that's why I always have to change my damn signal lights"

I call BS on all you guys.
An exhaust tip will change the tone of the exhaust to some degree.
Simple experiment grab a duel outlet tip and say something into it. Then grab a 3"-3 1/2" tip and say something into it. Your voice will change. That right there tells you your exhaust tone will change. For cring out loud my mom could tell the difference in the tone of her exhaust on her Grand Prix GT. I took off her stock tips and put my stock Daytona pace car duel/duel tips from my GTP on her car.

A friend of mine has an 06 SAP GTO with Magnaflow mufflers from the factory. He put on Corsa clone tips and to me it does sound deeper than with the old tips.

I use the glass bottle theory. Blow into a bottle and get a deeper sound. Get a bottle with a larger opening and the sound will change.

I use the bottle theory too. One bottle of 100proof and a rag in the open end light and throw.. Before long I hear the woooooooooooo too..
