Camaro debuts on this day in 1966
I read this and couldn't believe how inaccurate the article is. The 427 was never offered as an option until the 69MY, although there were dealers that took 427's and installed them. The 396 came out in November 1966 in response to the Mustang offering the 390 in the new body style.
And they made 602 Z28's in 67 to qualify the car for SCCA Trans Am road racing.
The commercial is worth watching though...

The music, the announcer and "special effects" alone make it worth the watch Wow... now I really feel old
