KBB lists the car in my area at:
    Excellent
    $22,170

    Good
    $21,020

    Fair
    $19,470

with that being said, its up to you. Just ask yourself is an 8 year old car(released in 01) worth 20K. As mentioned above, how long of a loan are you going to take out 3-5years?
is the car going to be a DD or fun summer toy.

No way would I buy a DD that is 8years old for 20k. A summer toy, than yes I would.

Summer toy only (well, year round based on my locations). My S/C Mustang was driven about 2,000 miles a year. Occasionally I'd take it to work on a Friday or a quick blast around town on the weekend while the kiddo was napping.

Loan would be for 3 years; I would be putting down about 25%.

I live in Florida also. Seen a few 02-03 Zo6's with about 25,000 miles. Usually red or yellow, asking about $23,000. Check auto trader, 200 mile radius, mostly up north.

Thinking about trading my car in for one and selling my 63 Ford Falcon. Figured that would put a good enough down and only have to finance very little. But insurance would be a killer....

I found a 1999 C5 FRC with a cowl hood, chrome Z06 wheels, buyer asking $17,000 but I negotiated down to $16,000 sight unseen. (The car is back home but I'm on a long-term business assignment 6 hours away, so up front negotiations prior to making the drive are a requirement.) Car has 65k, no accidents, interior is a 9/10 and exterior is an 8.5/10 per the seller.

    How about this one?

I believe he said one of the wheel sensors is bad. Are these difficult/expensive to replace?

A car is a depreciating asset. Purest financial logic states that if you can't pay cash, you can't afford it. Especially if it's a non-essential car.

Ultimately, I think the Trans Ams are an good investment as far as cars go. In this economy state, it's a good and bad time to buy our cars. Collectors who are trying to get some extra room in there barn of cars will put them up for sale. But they want high dollar, understandable. But they usually have under 4,000 miles a year put on them. But your average Joe who has a Trans Am, that he put 9,000+ Miles a year on, who lost his job and is in dire need of extra money. Will sell you his bird for cheap. So deals are to be had, if looked. When the economy is stable, we all seen the Trans Am hold its value. But since Pontiac is dead, and Firebird dead before GM killed Pontiac. Also with lots of people seeing the Trans Am as the last pure Pontiac Muscle. I can honestly say, that when this economy turns around. Our cars will start to go up in value again.

Edit: What I am saying is. The Corvette is a Honda where I live, they are everywhere... On the other hand, I see a FireHawk everyday, because it's down the street from me. But don't really see many Trans Ams around, WS6 is a rare in my area. I am just saying, I think the Trans Am will hold value in the long run better then a Corvette. Short term, the Vette will hold it's value.

I think it'll be a while before you see any reall appreciation in value from any 4th-gen F-bodies. The economy is poised to grow very slowly if not continue to suck ass for a very long time.

Plus, by the time the 4th-gens are old enough to really be worth something as collector's items, our currency won't be worth the paper on which it's printed. You'll get $100k at auction for a low mileage SS/WS6 and you'll pay $50 for a Big Mac.
