Buick help...
So my moms 95 Buick skylark is not engaging the cooling fan. It only engages when you turn the heater or a/c on. At first it wasn't showing any temp so i checked the temp signal switch and the wire was cut so i fixed the connector and bought a new sensor and whala! Its now showing temp but the cooling fan wont engage when its supposed too. Is the relay bad even though the fan does turn on? What other things could it be?

Tell her to always keep either the heater or a/c on. Problem solved.

She has been doing that, but today i did that and the temp still went up pretty high

Turn the a/c to a higher setting?

Will that make the actual cooling fan go faster?

How hot is the temp actually getting too. They usually don't come on until around 230 IIRC

Temp at halfways is 220 and it goes past that and never engages the fan. My mom says it would never get that hot either.

look through the engine bay and see if one of the other relays in there is the same as the fan relay. if there is one swap it for a bit and run it. if it turns on proper then replace the relay.

I could be wrong, but there are probably 2 relays. I realize that the cars are 8-years apart, but this is the way my '87 GN worked. The fan operates at two different speeds, depending on which relay is engaged. The one that engages the fan when the a/c is on is the high speed relay. There is probably a low-speed fan relay as well. Your best bet is to find a wiring diagram for it to be sure.
For what it's worth, with the high speed relay engaged (i.e., with the A/C on), the car shouldn't be getting hot.
