Welcome to 3 years ago! But seriously, that's a really cool find. Even if it's a carbed 305!

    Right on that one !
It would be interesting to see just how much real life money that is worth. I mean that they were real dogs and choked up tighter than a clams ass at high tide. I had an 1989 Z28 that I had to pay someone to take it. "Hey, it's free. No thanks, guy down the street will pay me $100 to take his". Say what ?

Oh well what can ya do..

I hear ya though,, slow as snail shit in January, but hell with everything new she'll prolly come apart nicely.

Then you could toss in a real v8, and a good built auto or 6-spd with a good rear and have something quick. imho

I mean hell,, you'd prolly have to replace every seal, gasket, and rubber componet on it anyways from it sitting too long..

Just thought it was cool to get that lucky and find stuff like this myself.

Third gens were everywhere when I was in high school, so they really didn't have much appeal to me. Now, however, I would love to have a nice clean IROC in the stable.

Seems like most the third gens around here all look like they've been rode hard and put up wet. Hard to find one rolling that doesn't need some work done to it. I'm with you, though, Jeff, a nice clean IROC would be nice to have.

    I cut my teeth in a 92 25th anni.. Had an 89 v6 aswell.

Sorry to say they handled far better on stock suspension parts than any of the 2 4th gen f-bodies I've had.

Though both were v6 the 3800 has roughly the same dressed weight as a dressed LS1 does.

In order from best to worst..IMHO

    Handling cnfidence: 92 z28, 89 rs, 95 camaro, 3800 without stickies..

You can throw the latter year 3rd gen into a corner, get loose, and drive away, 4th gen always wants ass first..

The 95 was real close to having the same cornering characteristics as the 92 since it had the 3.4l as a weight advantage.

My 2001 always felt slightly unpredictable from 26k when baught, till over 80k when I added super stickies and tightened up the sway bars..

In the 3rd gen your seat is within the suspension, in the 4th gen I always felt like it was "stacked" on its gear.imho

The last year (92) z28 in full body trim (3 piece spoiler, raised hood trim, vented ground effects) was a beutiful car imho.

Lets face it 3rd gens were everywhere for a reason.. People liked very much what they saw..

It's been said over the years that the "new look" of the 4th gen somewhat helped in it's demise..

This is born out in the fact that over the same length of time 3rd gens sold far and away in higher numbers.

@ least that's what I've heard over the course of quite a few years.. neways.

The new look just never really caught on..
Then when everyone was starting to get used to the new look, GM went and added composites' as basicly the lone redesign and then.... well..........

I think if it was'nt for the LS1 they would have been dead much earlier..imho

Some fact, some opinion, take it for what it's worth..

If they did'nt have "smoggers" just maybe, but I hated how they looked like they were always headed up hill..

Dad had a blue on white 74 T/A 455.. That was also a good looking gen 2..imho

165hp 350 = kill urself now b4 they see you.. jk

The smoggers years were just that. I would still love to own a stock 2ng gen smogger pulled out of a time vault like this 3rd gen...

thats a hell of a find but damn it still looks rough for being in storage for all those years. The 305 H.O. motors were pretty decent for there time. In 84 Car and Driver rated the 84 Z as the best handling car of the year.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking gen 2 owners for what they like to drive.

I'm just not a big fan of them. Swap in some sort of GM beast and you really do then have something.

When I was a kid a childhood friend had one 4:11's nicely built 355, and some juice.

Never got to ride in it because he was in a fatal accident in it.

Not from street racing though, he was hit from behind and pushed into traffic,,

then was broad sided on the drivers side by a heavy hauler who just did'nt have time to stop.

I was prolly ~ 17-18 when that happened.

On a lighter note a 3rd gen retro-fitted and modernized is what I would call a little bit o' heaven..

Great handling/looking car with modern power to back it up what's not to like?

Though I am partial to 3rd gens, I would'nt have had 2 4th gens had I not liked them.

As personal preferance/opinion, I just feel that in some ways we got the shaft from Detroit when they changed them.

Especially the v6 cars.. Taking away the 660 and adding that boat anchor all iron L36 was a total mistake imho.

They could have @ least given us the L67 like the heavy GTP guys got..

People in the 660 comunities have been hybriding 3400/3500 and making better N/A numbers than the L36 now for years.

It just goes to show that the 3.4l 660 just needed to breath! They also sound better when loud too.imho
