    Exclamation Big-Block Chevy Blower - 8-71!

    Big-Block Chevy Blower - 8-71!

Our Every Trick In The Book series continues with a Weiand 8-71 huffer atop our unkillable big-block. We kinda did it just for fun, but we learned some good stuff anyway. They're low-tech, outdated, and require a big hole in the hood that some feel is just passe. So what? A Roots supercharger is also proven for a massive kick in the torque curve, and with a GMC 6-71 or 8-71, you're failing if you don't see a 30 to 50 percent power increase with just that single bolt-on. So, when we ran thin on external bolt-ons for our Every Trick in the Book 454 test mule, we couldn't help but notice that our trusty Weiand 8-71 was collecting dust on the shop shelf. Goofing off with the huffer proved more interesting than we thought.

Roots sc may be old school, but there is a reason they are around. Mine make power as soon as the cam transitions from ilde, and has a nice flat power curve. Not much says power like one.

anyone that bitches about roots being old school needs to go ride or drive in a car that has one and simply stomp the gas and hold on. Flat torque all the way through the tach and it'll blow the tires clean off

Certainly can't hide the fact that you have a roots sc. But hit the throttle, watch the boost hit 13#, and hold on. Mine is 420 ci roots. 5 miles per gallon, though on 110 octane.
