Anyone know anything about Jaguars? Pics inside...
Thinking about buying this car: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national or this car: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
Anyone know anything about them? My wife LOVES them but I don't know how expensive they are to repair or maintain. Thanks in advance.Last edited by nitrox28; 06-30-2010 at 07:02 PM.

They used to be infamous for their repair/maintenance needs. People 'joked' they spent more time in the shop than on the road. But that was before Ford bought the brand. I don't know if that improved the repair-heavy image or not. But you might want to google that specifically, I'm sure you can find some info on that...

Run away, far away.
The X-type is based on the Mondeo (Contour) platform.
If you want luxury with reliability, get an Avalon. One of the best long distance cruisers that I've ever rented. I've driven them across Texas on too many occasions, and they even make that trip tolerable.
Texas = only 2 inches on the map = 5 straight hours of driving

jaguars are garbage. i dont care what year. my parents had 2 early 90s ones, and they were both in the shop more than our driveway. and it wasnt even for anything major. It's the stupid little shit that breaks on them all the time..door locks, windows, door handles. Their electrical system is rubbish too

Black- 2004 GTO
A friend of mine just bought an X-Type. Nice car, and that gets down the road very well. As for maintenance and troubles..... Couldn't tell ya, he's only had it for a couple months.

I was looking at getting an Xtype myself since the price is cheap and they are aesthetically very nice cars. I've heard bad things which made me reluctant, and it's a car. I need a truck.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
A sign I saw on a Jag in the car corral at the Long Beach swapmeet:
If you like not knowing if you'll arrive at your destination; if you like not knowing if it's gonna get you home should you arrive at your destination; if you like being stranded in the middle of a rain storm; if you like paying more for parts than your monthly payment is; if you like electrical parts catching fire then THIS is the car for YOU!

My brother has a 03 xtype. It has about 90k on it. got it at about 50k. Only problems he has had is two coil packs going and giving miss fires. First time like an idiot he drove too long. Wound up killing the cats which were replaced under warranty. Next one he did right away. Seems like the rear ones get overheated. They are located under the intake plenum. Rides decent and gets decent mileage. I have driven it a few times. Only thing that takes some getting used to is the sluggish transmission. When you jump on it there is a hesitation before it downshifts.

The last Jag I had was a '37 SS 100. Was a fine car - but a little older than what you're looking at.

HA!
I do know I had a couple pull up next to me at a light once with a hot chick driving and a drunk guy in the passenger seat. The guy was egging me on going 'come on show me what you got! Don't worry she's just a girl..." Well she just giggled but otherwise ignored us so I didn't think she was into it. Next thing I know the light changes and she slams it HARD! In the long second it took me to react she was gone. Caught up to them at the next light and said "that's the last time I believe 'it's just a girl' driving'... They both laughed at that...
Not really helpful, but it was fun and funny...

Red- 98 Trans Am Ws6
I daily drive a 2000 s type 4.0 and I love it. I have had it since 30k miles and it is now at 105k, my list of problems:
Injectors @ 95k 8 of them total cost w/ labor 1200
1 window motor and reg @ 400
trunk release and gas cap release wiring @ 200
The car has an amazing ride, and it is unbelievable smooth and quiet ride and I will be buying another one once I graduate.
