Anyone here own or know someone that owns a Ferrari or Lambo?

Here's the thing. My friend has been kicking around the idea of buying a Ferrari 308 or 328 or a Lamborghini Jalpa or Urraco. There isn't a Ferrari or Lambo dealer within HUNDREDS of miles from here. We have a Porsche dealership but that's as exotic as it gets. can he perform service on a car like those himself? Can a local mechanic work on them? The service issue is the only thing really holding him back. I know there are tons of highline exotics in town (F-50, F-40, 360 Spyders, Lambos) but I have no idea where they go when something breaks. Thanks.

Any registered motor vehicle repair shop should have sufficient knowledge in performing repair/maintenance but keep in mind that your friend will probably get better treatment with a car like that at a Ferrari/Lambo specific shop.

Personally I would not let anyone other than the dealership touch the car. The Porsche I had was a PINA to work on so anytime I had any work done it took the two hour trip up to the dealer. That's one reason I don't have it anymore.

well the average brake job alone costs as much as a kia sonota, on a murcilago it cost 5,400 for brakes old school ferrari is aroun 3,200 because they change brakes, pads and lines for optimal performance. better have the cash for the flash. an average dealer tune up for a 308 ferrari is around $6,000. hell it cost me $130. for my nissan truck

Those cars you just listed are extremely unreliable and very expensive to repair.

They are cheap to buy though.

I know from first hand knowledge. Ask what you wanta know and I can tell you.

You can work on them and all that yourself, however MOST other ferrari and lambo owners will not buy a car that has not been maintained by authorized mechanics or somebody that has the rep.

Keep in mind you can easily ring up parts bills on these cars in the thousands.

For instance I had to replace the clutch on a countach and it was over 10,000 bucks.

The half shafts on my new gallardo were over 11,000 bucks. (a tip: don't let er rip from a stop at 8000 rpm.)

Is he just looking for something kinda exotic? Tell him he needs to step up to at least the 355 ferrari and on the lambo it has to be a gallardo.

Otherwise it will be one repair after another. That's why I traded the diablo for the gallardo.

I should add though, buying and driving an exotic is the shit.

However a corvette is usually the smarter and more practical purchase.

And you gain literally NOTHING in performance from one of the cheaper exotics.

The gallardo is the first car I've had that can run circles around the vette, but I guess it should since you can buy 3 vettes for the price of one.

Oh one more thing I forgot. You can't park these cars anywhere. You can forget about ever getting groceries with one, going to the bar, or whatever.

People will not leave these cars alone.

And insurance usually will NOT cover damages if the car is unattended. That means you have to be with the car at all times.

And usually your limited to 5000 miles a year unless you pay A LOT extra.

Gallardos get about 10 city/17 hwy if I remember correctly.

i remember when i got insurance on the ws.6 for the first time, i was talking to a broker from california. she mentioned that she's written 1mil dollar policies on lamborghinis.
