I've always been curious about a straight cut... I'm not too trusting of my steadiness though.

    Sadly now demodded :(

I use only warm water and an old twin blade style razor when I shave. I'd try a straight razor (like a barber uses) but I'm afraid I'd slice myself.

You know your getting old when the major manufacturers of such things (Schick, Wilkinson, etc) stop making a blade for your handle.

I'll check out your link when I get home tonight. I've been thinking of getting a double edge saftey razor as this is what I learned to shave with back in the mid 60's.

i got the idea from a site called the art of manliness: http://artofmanliness.com/

youd be surprised at how many companies still make this stuff.
i admit it takes a little longer, but i get a much better, more relaxing shave.

When I was in the Army I was the only (white) guy I knew who had a shaving profile. My beard is very curly and if I shave every day I get ingrown hairs. These hurt like hell and are unsightly to boot. This is why I petitioned for and receive a military medical profile that allowed me to shave only every other day. Additionally, the chemicals in an aresol can mess with my skin. This is why I use only warm water. The 1st time I had someone else shave me (a barber) this was all they used (warm water and a stroped straight razor). Pull on the skin til it's taunt and shave against the grain. I find it works well for me. Cologne following to close up the pores. These days I only shave 2 or 3 times a week.

I use shaving gel, hot water in a sink, and right out of the shower. The razor I use is the Gillette Fusion, and Schick quattro. These old style methods you guys are talking about would result in a bloody mess if I tried it lol I don't have the patience anyways

I use those retarded Mach 3 vibrating 4 blade, 3 shaves until their dull expensive as fuck razors from Gillette.

I hate my beard. I would like to have it lasered off, at least everything below the jaw.

thats my gripe with the fusion. I've had the mach3 turbo as well and the original mach 3. They work great, but go dull VERY quickly and the refills are really freakin pricey.

i used gilette sensor double blades for years and just recently switched to triple blade. my first shaves where electric, switched to wet shave in the army. 20 years ago.
i often thought of trying a straight blade, but i'm just too lazy.

I just shave in the shower with a plain razor. I've only ever found one shaving cream that didn't make my face break out into a pizza or all the skin start peeling off, and that was Aveeno. Stuff smells like a mix between cough syrup and oatmeal, and I just couldn't take it anymore. From the looks on co-workers faces when I walked by after using it that morning, they didn't appreciate it either. So, I just tried taking the razor into the shower one day, and it worked much better than I expected. Just have to double check when I get out to make sure I didn't miss a spot.

couldn't imagine messing with all that crap at 5:30 in the morning to use a straight razor. Being half asleep when i shave there is no way i'm getting a straight blade near my face.

i used the gillette sensor for years without until they didn't have my blades in stock a few weeks ago and i switched to the Fusion. starting my 3rd week on the same Fusion blade and no dulling problems yet, although i don't have a very rough beard to shave.

I tried the gels, the soaps, electric, hybrid electric ... always wound up with irritated skin.

Then I found this roduct at my local Wal-Mart ... www.shavesecret.com

this stuff absolutely awesome with a Mach 3 razor.

you guys that shave with just water find this is better then a gel or shaving cream? I haven't tried it but I would think your skin gets irritated?

Ok can someone tell me the difference between the "safety" razor that the OP uses and a cartridge style
