Anybody ever receive victim compensation
So I got a broken jaw, and I've been wired up for almost 2 weeks now.. When I was at the doctor's they gave me some forms for victim compensation. From what I understand, they give you a certain amount of money for different types of injuries if you're an innocent victim of a crime. They also reimburse you for time missed from work, mileage to appointments for treatment, and so on..
I filled out the forms and they faxed them in.. When I was asking the lady at the doctor's about it she told me she wasn't sure how much they give out for a broken jaw but she said maybe $10,000 or $5,000.. I wasn't able to find anything online about it..
Does anybody know how much they actually give out for something like this?? Also, how long does this process take? What I read said about 6 weeks from the time you filed..

Hm... to make a long story short...
I was going to pick up this girl I've known for a while.. And some how, her ex boyfriend was FOLLOWING her lol..
When I pulled up he came runnin out of these bushes and started screamin and acting retarded.. I had no idea what was going on.. The girl calls the cops.
THEN, his brother pulls up with a couple of his friends in a truck.. So there's about 4 guys, the girl, and me. The girl and the ex boyfriend start fighting with eachother.. and we're all watching.
Out of nowhere, the brother comes from behind me and sucker punches me.. I stumbled for a second, and by the time I realized what happened the cops pulled up and the kid got in the truck and took off..
I was bleeding a good amount.. And I couldn't open my mouth at all.. It was all off to the side. The paramedics showed up and said it wasn't broken because if it was I'd be in "an excrutiating amount of pain".
So I went home, went to sleep.. Woke up the next morning and went to the hospital to get x-ray's. Turns out it was broken in one spot, fractured in the other.
I had to wait a week to get into a plastic surgeon (only doctor in the area who specialized in jaws) They put me to sleep, rebroke it to line it up, and wired me shut. Been wired for a week and a half now.. Have 5-7 weeks to go

Yeah well I plan on it. The police took it down as a "brawling" because they said that there was no independent party to what happened. Obviously, that was before we knew my jaw was broken and it's clear now that I was the victim. So I will be pressing charges..

Nothing.. All liquids.
Mainly what I've been drinking is a lot of tomato soup and a lot of chocolate milk. I also bought those carnation instant breakfasts that you mix in with milk.. Been living off those.. Somtimes some pudding..
Getting real tired of it.

I'm sure it varies from state to state but when my dad was murdered in MO we (my brother and I, the heirs) were supposedly elligible for victim's comp but only if the murder was solved and someone convicted. So, if Florida is in any way similar, you may need at-fault party who gets busted which would make you the legitimate "victim" according to the state.

Hm.. Well that shouldn't be a problem. But that would make sense. They didn't mention any of that to me, but it might be that way as well.
I have a witness and obviously I was injured. I know the guy who did it does have warrants out for his arrest as well..Last edited by M-Ten; 12-11-2008 at 04:41 PM.

I bet that guy wouldn't have been so brave to throw a punch without his bitch friends there. Dude that's battery with great bodily injury and you have witnesses...put him behind bars and then sue his ass.
