Any of you guys know fox body stangs?
My neighbor who just moved in has an 87 Gt with CAI, Heads, Headers, Mild cam and exhaust. He says he kills modded ls1s all the time and I told him bs he could not even beat a stock ls1. So basically I was wondering if a stock ls1could take him?
P.S he says he estimates 340hp at the wheels with those mods

I just texted him to see how much hp his car makes he said it was 340 at the flywheel not rear wheels my bad.

He corrected it to "at the crank" but still... Motor wise, you stock versus him are similar, but the fox is going to be lighter

depends on the head/cam combo,i had a 87 lx 5.0 automatic that could only muster a 15.10 in the quarter,but my 92 gt (5-speed)ran 14.20 with 3.55 gears,cai,off road h-pipe and flowmasters.and btw the first ls1 t/a i ran across in late '97 ripped my gt a new one.

am i correct though at saying that motor stock was only 225hp and was actually a 4.9 liter?

i guess its possibly but i am still saying 340 aint happening with out doing more to it like stroking it, bore, full intake manifold, maf sensors, fuel injectors etc

h/c and boltons can make all the difference in the world if the right parts are picked. My motor makes 270 GROSS horsepower and vortecs with a voodoo 268 cam and bolt ons will make about 400. Why can't a 5.0 make 340? If this guy is a teenager though, he's likely full of shit though.

I have seen some fast 5.0 87 to 92 mustangs. They are very light (especially the notchbacks). If they have full heads and cam and full exhaust and some 3.73 gears and traction, I would say they would beat a LS1.
I have had 2 fox bodys and 1 was an auto, Ill I can say is the auto was stock and got beat by almost everything, the 5 speed had full bolt ons (headers, no cats, h-pipe, flowmasters, 3.73s CAI, bigger injectors, etc) and I could beat or hang with most LT1s. I never raced any LS1s. But if it had heads and a cam, I could see it beating LS1s

i ran across a old street racing friend of mine a couple of weeks ago,he has a 93 gt with a vortech blower,headers,h-pipe,magnaflows,cobra intake,and 3.55 gears.we didn't race because he had his 4-year old son with him,but i really would like to run him,should be a good run.i think i'll get him off the line (he has stock size tires 245-50r16)so i think he'll either bog it or spin.

What the hell was fords problem in 93, I remeber they de tuned the 5.0s to 205 hp and droped to 275 torque. A friend of mine had a 93 Cobra that would get beat by a stock 88 Gt all the time. He was pissed, but his Cobra was way more rare, so that was what he always talked about.
