I've always maintained Amsoil was the top shelf of boutique oils.....Royal Purple/Red Line etc. Top notch company from top to bottom. The only company that flat out tells people which of its oils are GroupIV and which are GroupIII. Over the counter oils I maintain PP is the best OTC oil available. Amsoil is the best higher end oil. Yup they are a sponsor now and good for us......

Full synthetic is a group 4.
Blend is a group 3.
Standards in the states allows for group 3's to advertise that they are full synthetic.
Sarge...I don't really have the time or money right now to be sending off oil.
I REALLY liked that VP 5w-30. How does amsoil rate with that??

Per United States regs....yes.
Mobil 1 USED to be a group 4 synthetic. If it still was, it would be a great oil. This is why everyone thinks they are great. They used to be.
Then all the other brand names started using group 3 basestock, and Mobil called them on it.
Well...eventually Mobil gave in and went to group 3 as well. Business is about making money. Can't really blame them.

Oil Weight
Amsoil is not a thinner oil by virtue of being Amsoil. In order to meet the SAE specified rating, all oils have to maintain their perspective weight rating otherwise it could not be marketed as such. Example, a 5W-30 weight oil has to be within SAE tolerances to get the 5W-30 label.

weight is a measurement of how much oil flows through a fixed orifice in a fixed time correct?

PAO = 100% Synthetic
Group IV – Polyalphaolefins (PAO)
A more specific type of olefin is a poly-alpha-olefin (or poly-α-olefin, sometimes abbreviated as PAO), a polymer made by polymerizing an alpha-olefin. An alpha-olefin (or α-olefin) is an alkene where the carbon-carbon double bond starts at the α-carbon atom, i.e. the double bond is between the #1 and #2 carbons in the molecule. Common alpha-olefins used as co-monomers to give a polymer alkyl branching groups are similar to 1-hexene or may be longer.
In Europe, only Groups IV and V may be classed as synthetics.
