Keep the car and still keep making the payments TO YOURSELF!
In a few years when it's time for something different, you'll have CASH and not be beholden to the bank. And after you pay cash for the new car, keep making those payments to yourself.
When you make payments to yourself, you keep the interest it earns.
When you make payments to the bank, you pay too much for the car and allow the bank officers to get their Mercedes.
Use this opportunity to make your money work for you, not someone else!
I just posted this in another thread.
After you have done this only once (kept making payments on a paid for car) and then pay CASH for all your cars from that time forward, it will forever empower you financially.
Good Job!

This is America.....run out and get your ass in debt again.
Seriously though, that's some good advice from CJ. That would take an ass load of discipline but just think of it as you still haven't paid the car off. If you were able to stick back enough to buy your next car outright with cash you'd be sitting pretty for a long time to come. Easier said than done though.

Yes, it is difficult the first time.
All it takes is discipline. You were already making the payments, just keep doing it.
What you will find is that the balance grows much quicker than you would have imagined. Any unforseen circumstances that require $$$ are suddenly not an issue and you don't have to resort to the credit card.
The main thing you will find, at least I did the first time, is that when the time comes to get a different vehicle (notice I didn't say new, I will NEVER buy a NEW vehicle) you will find it difficult to let go of your $$$ pile.
It is all too easy to get sucked into a monthly payment number. When you are letting go of 5 figures it gets your attention and you will discover just how much you really NEED that vehicle.

Take the car payment amount and cut it in half. Put 1/2 of it toward a down payment on a replacement vehicle or repairs or whatever for the future and take the other half and put it into an IRA. Trust me... I'm a lucky guy personally, but I have some friends that at age 45 or 50 look around and after having had all the toys they don''t have diddly put away for retirement.

You did not pay all cash up front? And now, you got it paid off, you want to start making payments on a new car?? Are you fucking retarded? Honestly, just light your fucking money on fire, it will be just the same.
