42" or 47" lcd hdtv
Been doing alot of research/comparing prices the last couple days on a new tv. For the most part 47" tv's are just a few hundred more than a 42" assuming they have the same specs. I just can't decide if I should splurge and spend a bit more for the 47". I don't really need the 47" as I have a fairly small living room but I'm looking for a tv that I will have for a long time and not want to to bigger later or regret getting one to small. This is going to be my christmas presant to me. Anyone know of any good deals going right now and lcds this size that I may have missed?

you might consider the differance of how they will feel in the room you will use it in. Friend of mine bought a 60" and had a small living room. it was like sitting in the front row at the movies... so yes it is possible to have too much TV.

My little brother has a 50" lcd widescreen in his bedroom which is pretty small, and it's pretty sweet, a bit big for the room but it doesn't take away from the experience. I'd say for for the bigger one for your living room.

If I had 1000 bucks I would get a very good 42 instead of an average 47. I choose quality picture over average.

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma 1080P native 1920x1200.
The picture is amazing and the sound is the best. I actually disconnected my home theater because the tv sounds that good.
model number ending with 700U has the BBE 3D sound. BBE makes equipment for the recording/music industry and did an amazing job on the sound for this plasma. The bass rattles my kitchen cabinets and sounds clean. Also you dont have to worry about burn in on these 8 generation of plasma. I play xbox 360 all the time and no issue at all. Most good plasma like Panasonic have pixel massagers.
Panasonics are rated number 2 in TVs with Pioneer being number 1, for about $1k more.
I bought my 42" Pana for $1400 out the door at best buy, typical goes for $2k before tax
Also check cnet reviews.
Finally yes higher contrast ratio is important however there is no standard setup regarding the contrast ratio, what one manufacturers 5000:1 ratio could 10000:1 to another..

Make sure its a 1080, cable broadcasting will eventually boost from 720 to 1080 so might as well invest in that quality now, . I have a 56" Samsung LCD 1080p in small living quarters and i have no complaints, i'm kind of spoiled now lol i dont' know how i lived without it!

My recent experience:
I bought the Olevia 47 247thdf LCD for 1099.00 and this LCD was horrible very poor. Nothing worked. online screen display worthless, HDMI =no audio ,unsupported function. The picture was horrible and you can't use a home theater system, and tech support was useless/from India.
I returned the Olevia for the LG 42" 42LB5D 1080P and for 150.00 more it was well worth it. It was 1249.00
