2007 Baja 1000 SCORE Trophy Trucks - Heroes of Baja 1000
Backing It In
There are few vehicles on the planet more impressive and more fun to watch than a SCORE Trophy Truck. The heroes of the Baja 1000, Trophy Trucks are full-on race trucks with 800hp, naturally aspirated, midmounted small-blocks (usually); several feet of suspension travel; and attitude to spare. They sound like nothing else on Earth. We just got back from watching them get flagged off for the start of the '07 Baja 1000, the 40th annual running of the race, and it was all-time. These guys and girls were not fooling around and turned it into a drag race right from the start, as evidenced here by Robby Gordon oversteering his TT into the crowd on the very first turn of the race. He went in hot and backed the Monster Energy drink-sponsored beast into the nonpermanent catch fence, pushing it and the people hanging on it back about 2 feet. Nobody was hurt. In fact, they were cheering like crazy as Gordon sped off for the remaining 1,296.29 miles of the race and a Fifth Place overall finish. -Rob Kinnan
