Thumbs up 1999 olds aurora problem

Whenever my mom tries to start her car she gets the:
"clean key and wait three minutes" and the security light comes on and the car won't start. I have cleaned the resistor on both key set's and it has not helped.

Can anybody help me out thanks.

yep time for a new lock or you can just bypass the stupid vats system. Problem is there are two small wires in the lock that make contact with the key. These usually break and of course if the pcm doesn't see the right resistance it won't start and since the wires are probably broken its not reading any resistace. Ex gf alero had this issue, there are a few ways to bypass it . You can trace the wires (usually 2 thing white ones) under the dash, measure the resistance of the resistor on the key and splice in a resistor inline with the white wires. This will basically bypass the security making it easier for a theif to just jam a screwdriver in the lock and steal the car, might not matter to you when you find out the lock cost 150 bucks vs .10 resistor.

ps ex gf had a 1999 alero, biggest piece of shit ever...

    This -

My friend got an Aurora for free due to the fact no one could figure it out. Bypassing the vats system was simple and was the easiest.
