06 gto vs my 02 vette

both stock who would win the gto is an auto so is my vette i got the targa top. guy thinks hes gonna beat me what kind of chance do i have don't really know much about the vettes i have been only learning about the t/a's than bought a vette ps don't say just race and find out i will but wanna know before i go out

Just race and find out... But really, you just got the car and it's from an auction. You have not seen the car in person to my understanding. Before you plain any races or do anything stupid. Look over the car really well, check everything and learn the car. No need to hurt it or wreck it.

yea but we had a guy at the auction that looked it over and stuff and took it for a little test drive. but what would it be? just curious not racing soon but wanna know

I have picked up cars from the auction to help out my ex-g/f stepdad who owns small dealer... The people who work at the auction, really don't look the cars over real well. A wash, check lights, tires, take it down the street to put $5 of gas in it. Most the ones I pick up, needed some sore of work. I will still check it over really well and get to know the car. To me the car looked kind of beat up and needs a good recondition (This is just cosmetic impression, so I would assume all fluids would be a good idea to change).

As for the race, it's a drivers race.

it wasn't a random guy there it was one of dad's buddy's friends that looks at the cars for him that he buys so he know what to look at and my dad was on the phone with him as he was looking over the car.

Vette should take it with a average driver. Vette weighs a hell of a lot less and is more aero. Shines is right on the money. I would change all fluids to what you are going to run, do a tune up (IE: Fuel filter, plugs, wires and air filter) and drive it around a bit to get familer with the vehicle. Thats just my .02 tho

no yeah obviously im not just gonna get it and go racing every car i see. there was just a guy on fb last night that thought he was tough cause he has a gto and thinks he will smoke me.

Come on guys.....we were all young once, and we all love power here. To OP: I'd check tires also, make sure they are matching (sure sign someone is a cheapskate) If they are dry rotted or dangerous. Run your finger accross (VERY IMPORTANT) a COLD brake rotor and see if you can feel groves, if you can then new rotors are in order soon. Drive it and get to understand its manners and abilities.

EDIT: If hell bent on racing GTO due to reasons beyond our control, take it to the track

no i'm actually 17. turning 18 in november! thanx blackss01 yeah like you said we all love the power i drove a couple ws6's but never a c5. also thanx for the advise i will take go and check all that stuff when i get the car.

Check the belt for dry rotting or cracking (Don't want to get stranded or overheat) Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner ($5 at Autozone) and clean the throttlebody for increased perfomance. About all I can think of at the moment. Oh, do fuel filter if I have missed that already.
