LS1 Porsche Build
Well guys, here is the Official Build Thread. I will be updating it as much as possible. Just to let you know where I am at this point...... I have owned this 1988 Porsche 944 turbo/951 for several years and after a long (emphasis on long) debate about building a high boost turbo motor and struggling to find someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to tuning a Porsche in the Mississippi area, I have decided to go with a tried and true method, LSx! I purchased a LS1 motor from Craigslist and that is where my journey began. Got the car over to my Father and I's shop and began the transformation. As you can see from the pics the motor came with lots of extras that I did not need. I sold off all the extras to fund this crazy build. Just sold the Porsche motor yesterday (shipping it out today) and I also sold the BNIB T50 turbo I had sitting around for the "turbo" build. Bought a LS6 intake from a guy yesterday and the plan today is to pull the 241 heads in preparation to get them ported and polished.
I ordered the LS1 conversion kit from Eric @ Texas Performance Concepts which includes new motor mounts, modified oil pan and pick up, bell housing adapter, pilot bearing adapter, LSx clutch disc, and misc spacers etc. The custom 1 3/4 ceramic coated headers will also be coming from there. All the tuning will be done by Geoff at EPS in Baton Rouge (he previously owned Thunder Racing which I'm sure many of you are familiar with). I am also going with a EPS cam (prob 226/230).
Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on the progress now, on to the pics so far......

Well, got the old motor shipped off today....took longer than expected. Friday morning I hope to have the heads off and dropped off at the local machine shop. Thanks a lot guys.....this serves as some good inspiration as well.

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the progress to come. This looks very interesting.
As I am not familiar with that platform, how is the rear end and suspension in that car?

The 944 is a transaxle setup like Corvettes. They have been know to be able to handle power around the 500 hp. range without problem. Now, this is the "turbo" model. The trans and rears are much heavier than the standard 944 and a lot come with a limited slip set up as well, and trans coolers are standard. The 944 is a front engine Porsche and the build calls for slightly heavier front springs. Supposedly the LS1 only adds a maximum weight gain of around 50 lbs. Eventually I'm going to go with coilover suspension all the way around but, one thing at a time. Ha
