    LQ4 with stock lS3 heads

I want to put a LS3 camshaft (or equivalent ) in my engine. I like keeping things designed to work together...together.

I don't want to go crazy with changing head springs or carving piston reliefs in my pistons. I want a nice street able engine. it will never see the track. The loppy idle would be add to the cool factor but not necessary.

So my question is , what modifications do I have to do to put a LS3 camshaft in my LQ4 engine? My LQ4 is a 2003 where the cam sensor is in the back.

Why not just go to any one of the dozen or so aftermarket cam manufacturers and spec out a bumpstick that will work with what you have?

I just saw your car at the bottom of your profile -- sweet! We have a '70 that we just picked up last August from the Rochester area. Great car and we have been thoroughly enjoying it.

Well thats a fair question. I can get a new unused ls3 cam for under 100, aftermarket cams are 350 and up. I live in Canada so add 25 percent to that plus shipping.

That makes sense. Is the LS3 cam a 1 bolt or 3 bolt design?

Well i didnt know they had a 3 hole design. The ones on ebay are one hole.

Thr one hole seems to need the cam position sensor relocated to the front.

Biy there is is this other factor of sensor spots on the gear. (Not sure of the correct terminology)

Are the knock sensors in the valley or the side of the block that will determine what you have to do. Mine are in the valley so that means I have to relocate a few things to make that work since its gen 3. Also the ls3 is a one bolt design not 3 like gen 3.

The one bolt is also for the Variable Timing that connects to the cam. Here's a couple of articles on it.
