    Global West TracLink torque arm

Have had this for about 150000 miles on two TAs.

The torque arm is good. Rated to 850 HP. The diffy bracket has broken 3 times. Replaced once with light duty bracket. I am running 400 HP. Light duty bracket broke again and replaced with heavy duty bracket. HD bracket was never quite right. The holes were misdrilled and one mount bolt kept breaking off.

Finally the HD bracket failed completely so I had a competent welder rebuild the bracket with proper welds. The original welds broke due to poor weld depth. Only about half way through the brackets.

Seems to work now and the mount bolt is not breaking off.

I recommend the torque arm as long as the diffy mount bracket is rewelded prior to use.

    Regards,

Interesting. I have never heard of anyone having problems with a torque arm like that. Is GW made offshore?

They are a California company. Don't know where or if they outsource their welding. The repeated failures have cost me over $1000 in parts and labor.

If a torque arm cost me $1000 in repairs because it broke numerous times, I am not sure I would recommend it. I would have likely replaced it with a different brand all-together before it destroyed something else on the car. Then again though, that's a lot of miles to put on one so it's probably taken a bit of abuse over the years. I wonder if anyone has comparative data with a different brand.

What did their customer service have to say?

Just curious, what made you go with this brand over the typical ones like UMI, BMR, or Spohn?

    Any pics of the failure?

Bought it used, for a good price. Replaced the heim joints and installed it. Solved my wheel hop, but the diffy bracket has been the problem. Tried LCAs, LCA lowering brackets, and SFCs, but nothing solved the wheel hop until the Trac Link was in. It really does work.

I will post a couple of pics...the failure and the fix.

Our UMI tunnel mount torque arm is a beefy unit. I can't imagine being able to break it no matter how much I abuse it. Curious as to how it compares to the GW.

Does anyone have a Right Hand Side lower control arm in good condition lying around to suit a 57 Chev ? Will buy a pair if need be.
