Ford Shelby GT500 and Chevy Camaro ZL1 compared by Chris Har
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Etc., Videos, Chevrolet, Ford
International man of mystery Chris Harris recently abandoned his duties in the UK for a trip to the States. Why? Because of two very important pieces of machinery: the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. Harris took charge of both cars in Manhattan to evaluate their on-road manners before heading to the track for a little showdown. What did he find? On the street, the Camaro is actually easier to live with than its Ford rival thanks to a more comfortable seating position, friendly clutch and easy torque curve.
And on the track? The ZL1 took top honors there, as well, beating the GT500 around Monticello by a full two seconds even though it has less power. Despite all this, Harris says if he had to choose one to be his very own, it would be a set of Ford keys in his pocket. The hoon of hoons says that in this world, bad is good, and the Mustang is properly scary, where the Camaro is simply too drivable. Check out the video below to see for yourself.Continue reading Ford Shelby GT500 and Chevy Camaro ZL1 compared by Chris Harris

MT just did a very nice article comparing the 2 cars.
Though the Mustang rocks 82 hp more and comes in 234 pounds lighter, the track times around Laguna Seca were almost dead nuts even. The biggest complaint about the Ford was the ridiculous brake fade it suffers from causing incosistant lap times. They gave the Camaro the win.

I would'nt say they "gave" anything to the Camaro..
I've seen the actual video of a head to head..
Camaro had better everything except power..

Since I'm not a road course fan, that part of the test doesn't sway me.
I'd buy the ford hands down. Still haven't gotten over the ugly looks of the 5th gen camaro.
1/4 mile times aren't even close 11.9 vs 12.4 and look at the mph. 116 vs 123?
They still need to take some fat out of that camaro.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 07-10-2012 at 09:49 AM.

I have to also agree the Ford is a pretty car especially in that deep blue color they run.
But I'd take the Camaro for the simple fact it's based off a luxuray car platform (cadilac epsilon platform) prolly spelled wrong..lol
..and of course I am a huge fan of fully independant suspensions.

Also agree the Camaro is a pig. They really are'nt that big of a car, but they've got so much safey, and other "do-dads" crammed into the thing.
And yes the IRS is a heavier (weight wise) setup sometimes than the live axle..

It's going to have it's own platform as of 2014. So it will be lighter and faster
Plus IRS as Steven said!
I'd take the Camaro hands down over the Ford, I've driven both and prefer the Chevy.

Sounds interesting. Guess I'll wait and see what 2014 has to offer, until then I'm going to be a GT500 fan. Shucks even a regular 5.0 would be nice.
I'm more of a solid axle fan myself. Had 2 vettes years back with IRS.

I just hope they keep the 300+hp vvt 60 degree dohc 3.6L..
Not go sticking another 90* boat anchor in the dam things.
Hell bring back the 3900-660 and stuff it in there with a screw like the big boys get..
