    Turbo A/R Choices, Damn

ok, i have been looking for sometime now, just curious im looking at either a holset hx50 or a master power t70 with a .96 a/r. any suggestions on how they will perform with a rear mount setup on ls1 gto a4. just cant seem to find the one a/r that people agree on for good power from 2-5000 rpm. any help would be greatly appreciated.

hx50 would be super super laggy. if you ever got it spooled it would be nasty though. on a stock motor or anything with high compression that turbo would be pointless.

ok, with that in mind, what about the t70 with the .96 a/r or would the .71 would be better?

ill probably end up with the t70 with the .70 a/r both sides. it would seem to provide good midrange power which is what i want. i think it will any way. i been studying on how to read compressor maps. its really not as bad as i thought it would be.

personally i would find somethin smaller for a stock motor, for insta spool. you dont need a big turbo for a stock motor since you cant push that much boost anyway. if i was to choose between those i would go with the .96, but seeing as how all 3 have same specs i dunno how that one moves more air. . . .

ok, i guess im not sure now what size to go with. ive heard the compressor is right on. but im still not sure, i was told that .96 would take forever to spool. ok. lets just say i went smaller on the hot side and it made its 8 or 9 by 3000rpm would it still carry that 8-9 all the way to the shift or what. i dont know. still trying to get a compressor map for this unit. and a consumption map for my ls1

The A/R rate is critical, but not the only thing to consider when setting up your turbo setup. If you're going with a rear mount setup, which I wouldn't suggest, I'd remember this. You want a higher compressor a/r for lower boost applications because this will cause the turbo to get into the power a lot sooner. On the turbine side of the house if you go with a smaller a/r you're basically funneling the exhaust gases to increase the velocity. Go too low and you'll wait forever for your turbo to spool. Also, a t70 isn't too big as someone suggested. You'll have better volumetric efficiency and can always keep the boost turned down. You have a lot more to worry about than A/R ratings...I could go on with trims, compressor maps, ohhhh it goes on and on...lol...

daily driver kinda. i drive a company car 5 days a week and only drive the goat on the weekends. i want around 500 +/- 25 hp at the wheels. i have some cash, and not afraid to spend it. but i want to do everything myself. so i will not be buying a kit thats already made. and i want to do a rear mount as i dont not wish to messs with headers or anything under hood. mainly want it to look stock. i will be going to the strip once in awhile not often. maybe a street race somewhere here or there. but mainly something fun for the weekends and reliable.

i never said t70 is "too big" i said hx50 would be super laggy. . . . .as it would. i personally wouldn't run turbos with those specs on my fact motor, just way too much potential just to be squeezin 6-8 psi out of 'em.
