Turbo kit? Anyone have this one?....
I am looking at getting a LS1 TA, unfortunately, I haven't gotten it yet...gotta wait till the end of summer. I am up in the air on whether to get a M6 or A4, as I am not sure what my plans are for it. I plan on it being a daily driver, approx. 500 miles a month or so. I would like to, in the future, get one of these turbo kits:

or, something else, like the sts. When handling that kind of power, (500rwhp), is there an advantage to a M6 vs. A4, or is it just personal preference? Can the stock tranny handle that kind of power, or would it be necessary to go up to a 9in/12 bolt? I don't have a lot of experience with manuals, but I am a fast learner and love the "cool" aspect of a 6 speed, plus, 28-30 mpg on the highway from what I've heard! Newbie looking for advice....anything welcome!

The gas mileage aint quite that high lol like 24-26 or so is more accurate. But yeah the rear end will need to be upgraded these cars can really chew em up. Plus some internals like the pushrods for staters, and get subframe connectors you will be sorry if you dont.

but yeah the 6 speed incredibly strong, you probably wont have to swap it out unless you give it some serious prolonged abuse at those power levels...the auto on the other hand has been known to break relatively easily...go with the m6...the only disadvantage is having to change gears yourself, which to me is another advantage! ohh also the gay skip shift thing, but you can eliminate that easily

I saw this kit......think it's overpriced for what you get......you could easily build you one for way less and for over half the cost......as for the 6-speed....well....I switched my 4L60 over to a 6-speed and wish I hadn't......one reason.....you can build boost on a automatic off the line but with the 6-speed.....well......you have to have load on the motor to build boost....I tore the first T-56 to shreds in no time and then had D&D Performance build me one.....no problems yet but like I said.....should of stuck with the automatic......

The HP Performance kit is an excelent kit that is very complete and straight forward to install.I have three of their kits on various cars I own. I love them. You will need as posted already, at a minimum an upgrade rear axle like a 9 inch or 12 bolt. If you do buy a 6 speed you WILL need to upgrade the clutch immediatly with a turbo. The push rods are a great idea too, you will be hitting the rev limiter with a turbo, especially on street tires. Most of this was already said earlier in this topic but I thought it might help to hear it from an HP customer. Thanks, Anthony Dickson

the rear end is completely different than the transmission, and you will most definetely need atleast a 12 bolt if you want torque to reach the ground. my personal opinion in regards to the trans choice is the manual. pound for pound, the t56 is a stronger transmission than the automatic 4l60e. you can get it built even stronger with titanium components to up the handling of power even further. the manual has less drivetrain loss and puts the power to the ground more efficiently when driven right, but a stalled auto is just as good and deadly consistent. to me having an auto reduces some of the fun factor of racing, but thats just an opinion.
you need to ask yourself honestly what your goals are for your car. what do you want it to be...a dd and occasional track visitor or a track queen with hostile street manners? i know you said dd, but adding power usually means decreasing the streetability factor. with a good tune though and the right combo you could have a VERY high horsepower cruiser.
dont sell yourself short here. make sure you research all forms of power adders (nitrous, superchargers) and also take a look at the power that can be made staying naturally aspirated.
let us know how this goes with your f body purchase....

get an auto if your going to go with a turbo kit. you'll make less power at the rear wheel but your car will be much faster.

i deleted my old messages so i can organise my new 100% correct ones...
blow off valves can be adjusted (bov is intake side- post turbo)
boost controler controls wastegate (wastegate is exaust side)
both are methods for controling boost to your engine
and i have heard that u can use a boost controler to control both the bov and the wastegateLast edited by drewhenderson13; 05-19-2007 at 10:38 AM. Reason: added something

Well....for one I dont take the car to the track.....just drive it back and forth from work on occassion.......BUT.....if I was going to take the car to the track more then I think I'd much rather have an auto.....trans brake, stall.....and can build boost at the line
