question. i have a 97 ss with the lt1 and was thinking of either a supercharger or a sts turbo set up. someone told me that i would have to build my bottom end to handle a turbo???? i have 111000 miles on the car. is that to many for either charger?

Not necessarily, but save some money, cause it probably wouldn't last long. Do a compression test to make sure you have good compression first. Personally, I think your mileage is a little high to start boosting it. Good luck.

If you stay consertive on the boost 3-5 psi it will survive. I have found users of the STS setup on 5.3l chev pickup go well over 100k miles.

How long do you expect the rear would last with the STS at around 5 PSI?

Rear what? End. Depends on how much you abuse things. Probably last 4 ever if you drove like my grandma. LOL

Do you guys recomend the turbo? I talked to STS, and I was planning on the bigger turbo, methanol injection, AFR heads, cam, fast intake, built tranny with a stall, 12 bolt moser, should I be pretty quick?

Before you bolt on a larger turbo, do all your mods first, then run it with your existing turbo.
If your standard turbo begins to die out at top end, then go to a larger turbo.

I can't agree with onelife; if you want the larger turbo (I did) get it first.
If you blow your engine, rebuild or replace it.
    Wshhhh.

I just finished installing my STS kit w/ -67 turbo. Car's quite entertaining to drive right now. It'll be even more fun once I get all the tuning bugs worked out. It's running stupid pig-rich at WOT and stumbling a bit from fuel overload. I added 42 # injectors and the Racetronix 255lph fuel kit to my car prior to install. I also have a TR224 cam.....so it'll be interesting to see what this puppy puts out once all the fuel tables are set. Hoping for 11's on only 5PSI.

Haven't figured it out yet. Plugs and wires are replaced, coil packs are good. Doing leakdown and compression tests today. I'm thinkin that I have a bad piston. Gonna make that baby into a beast if I have to rebuild it.

You should be well into the 11's with that setup. I ran 12.2 at 6 psi, with an otherwise stock motor. And the tune wasn't done yet. I was running too rich, and too little timing. Good luck with it.

    Track time

The track finally opened up today. The temperature outside was about 50 degrees and very humid. I had lots of traction problems , but finally restrained myself so the car could hook. My best run was a 12.454 @ 116.73 MPH. On one run I accidentally shifted from 2nd to 5th and I smoked the clutch. Time for some tire, clutch, drive train, and suspension upgrades.

Is this the rear-mounted STS turbo, or the under-hood?

do you all think that this is a great value for a turbo?

It's the STS rear mounted kit.

FINALLY figured it out. Very low compression. I ran the car too hard and the rings and pistons are bad. I'm pulling the motor this weekend. Guess it's an excuse to put a stronger motor in it.

so what would a completely stock car, with stock injectors and no tune what-so-ever run with the sts @ 5psi? I'm guessing it would be less than 400hp

Not a good idea to run any FI without a tune. But, with a mail order tune, at 8psi, I was around 425rwhp. I had it dyno tuned, same exact setup, and hit 475 rwhp at 8 psi. Once the tune was decent, I turned it down to 6 psi, and was around 420 rwhp.

That was all on a stock LS1.
