Rear Turbos... I know, but it was coming anyway :)
This is a discussion on Rear Turbos... I know, but it was coming anyway :) within the Forced Induction forums, part of the LSx Technical Help Section category; so i made up my scavenger pump wiring harness. how'd i do? lol so what do you think about that ...

so i made up my scavenger pump wiring harness. how'd i do? lol
so what do you think about that short 12an line "mini sump" right off the turbo?

got my 317 heads in today look alright. definitly need to be cleaned up. nothing some solvent and maybe a parts washer cant handle lol
now i have something to put my valve covers on lol
Not too shabby for $80

AHHHH!!! so pissed right now. i had a guy make the inlet pipe and he totally missed the mark. totally not even close
02-07-2013, 05:42 AM #124
well i ordered a few things today
3"x14" resonator muffler with o2 bung
3" 90degree pipe
corsa clones twin stagger tips 4" out/3" in
8 3" v-band flange and clamp kits
2 OBX resonator bullet mufflers to replace the after market cats and to make sure the exhaust is nice and sealed

lol yeah, more like performance world lol. most of the time everythings alright, but then theres an item or 2 that just really pisses you off ocassionally lol
so far this one, my aftermarket cats that got welded poorly, and my intercooler issue. but all in all, its been ok. mostly just shipping errors most of the time.
02-11-2013, 06:20 PM #127
well got my MTX-L wideband in. ill being doing gauges this week
also got a few things on order
couple of these to replace the cats
corsa clones 4" tips with 3" inlet
a bullet muffler with a o2 bung in the back to help with tone and also have the correct wideband reference location, after the turbo
8 of these vband and flange kits to hook up the bullet mufflers, the turbo inlet pipe, and the tips. this is gonna be adjustable as hell!
vacuum manifold kit to hook all the new gauges and vacuum dependant systems up to
Oh and got my turbo header inlet pipe finally!
its coming along swimmingly lol
02-13-2013, 08:29 PM #128
ug... always somthing. the after turbo resonator is piped wrong so its gonna hav eto be replaced. for some reason they necked it down on the inside of the resonator to almost 2.5" from 3" on the out sides... i dont get it.
on a happier note, the corsa 4" clones are BAD ASS looking!!

heres my mock up of what i got
mind you i have the little stuff like couplers and tbolts and hoses lol but this is the major items, also the fuel stuff is already on the car except the injectors.

Do you plan on running methanol at some point, or no?
02-24-2013, 08:33 PM #132
yep, got an AEM meth kit that has a progressive controller. gonna try and plumb the washer tank to run meth.
02-25-2013, 02:38 PM #133
got alittle welding done today
mocked it up and then high temp painted the inlet pipe
02-25-2013, 06:31 PM #134
What exhaust kit is that? I like the tips.
02-25-2013, 08:22 PM #135
not a kit, its custom piping i bought to have fitted for the turbo kit. i sought out individual pipes for it. the tips are corsa clones i got off ebay as are the OBX resonators.

Have you or are you going to relocate the alternator to the where the egr use to sit (front of passenger cylinder head) to make room for the turbo piping/stuff?
Also are you keeping a running total. Kinda interested in seeing how much this will cost.

actually yer. ive been keeping tabs on almost everything ive boughten. things like extra piping and tbolt clamps i might not have kept tabs on every single dollar lol but ive got most of it. ill have to look what ive spent so far. ive got a few hundred more to go before i done im sure, but im pretty much past the parts retrieval portion lol now its pre install time lol
also thats the benefit of running an sts style rear mount turbo piping, no major aterations of the body or components. a battery relocation, radiator re-position, or alternator relocation isnt needed.

build cost in parts thus far for eveything to go on the car with the list above is roughly 3595. this isnt bad since this is EVERYTHING to have a resr mount turbo system properly to run on your car. the STS system costs twice that and you dont get gauges, larger turbo, proper sized injectors, fuel pump and wire harness, or other stuff that makes a rear mount funtion more effeciently.
now granted, with the sts system, you do get vehicle specific piping and pre fabed piping and whatnot so you do get that, but for $3000 more, that doesnt justify the cost. and mind you, almost EVERTHING ive boughten other then a few things, is brand new.
HPtuners is gonna add $699, frost base tune $200, and tick camshaft $742, to the build. plus what ever extras like welding. the inlet pipe only cost me $20 to weld together.
in total im looking at roughly $5237 + maby some welding labor.
still under the full $6000 sts kit that doesnt come with everything ive gotten, like a cam, tuner software, and whatnots. im doing pretty good. if STS offered a kit that had EVERYTHING that i was doing to my car, they probably would sell it at APS twin turbo prices of $12000 which is rediculous!

had a question for you wiring gurus lol
anyone know where exactly to tap into for the oil pump? i found this schematic. im thinking the gry 120 wire but not sure

so i have a few more things to report, ill take some pictures when its light out again lol
installed the boost gauge, fuel pressure gauge, wideband gauge, and vacuum manifold log. also fixed the wiring so that my trans temp gauge actually dims when i turn the head lights on.
was really simple actually once i mounted the gauges in the gauge pillar pod and simplified the wiring. i pre fabed it so that it goes in as a unit. all the red 12volt switch wires bundled together, all the ground wires bunded together, and all the headlight switch wires bunded. the only one thats gonna be a hassle later is the wideband, but i am glad i set it on the botton pod position. the data serial cable, 2 analog sources, and wideaband cable sit just under above the vent lol but it shuold be ok. im not using most of them yet except the wideband.
all i gotta do now is hook a wastegate and BOV to the manifold. i also hooked up the boost reference hose to the FPR. its not getting pressure yet lol but its all hooked up so when i get the turbo on, it will be there when i need it.
the boost gauge is only getting vacuum right now lol but its reading -11 at idle. im assuming thats normalish. it moves been i apply the throttle. not sure what, it moved too fast lol its digital so its quick.
the fuel pressure guage reads 0 for now lol no fuel going through the FPR yet lol but its registered at zero so thats cool lol. i need to hook that up so i can check the fuel pressure.
tomorrow ill hook up the wideband sensor so i can check and see what my AFR is.
the vacuum manifold kit was great! had all the fittings, different diameter hoses and barbs to do everything! got it right off the booster. for now the two other ports are blocked off until i hook up the wastegate and BOV. the meth kit will have to t off something. the BOV hose should be ok for that since it will be the closest to tie into for that.
i think tomorrow while im under the car ill also start putting the oil pump in there. just to get it ready to hook it up. the less i have to do the better when the turbos ready to go on it
