    methanol methanol methanol!

we need it for over 5psi STS turbos right?!

For those of you that have the kit...

Where do you get your methanol?
    Do you mix it yourself?
    How long does it last?

and now my biggest question... could it perhaps be used (or not) with a very small shot of nitrous at 5psi? To get some more performance without blowing the motor? (I hate to get rid of my nitrous kit)

What methanol will do for you is lower your inlet air temps.......like an intercooler but chemically......and it works really well!!! My temps went from 150 to like 94. It allows you to start playing with your timing as it suppresses detonation.....it's debated but many say it takes 93 octane and makes it like 109-110 octane.........

I buy my methanol at a place in town that sells race fuel. I use a 50/50 mix...some say it should be like 40/60....with more water being used. You never want to use straight methanol. I've got mine plumbed into my windshield washer tank. It comes on at 1psi and is full on at 5psi......it depends on how long it will last....just depends on my right foot.....

Now....can it be used with nitrous....well....I wouldn't see why not....but....like anything.....you push the motor far enough and sooner or later it will give up......

    Question pick your poison...

    cailey...
    Thanks for the info.

How often do you fill up your washer tank? (assuming normal driving vs at the track?)

here's what I'm trying to figure out...
whats harder on the motor... using the sts kit with the GT-67turbo

5psi + 50hp icey cold wet shot of nitrous?

    or

    8.5psi with methanol inj?

8.5 psi with meth will beat the 5psi and N2O any day of the week! Remember with meth you are getting cooler IAT's and higher octane. The N2O is going to require more fuel and be more likely to damage something.

Well.....like I said....it all depends on my right foot.....but just driving around town it wont do anything if I dont go into boost......but if you drive around and get into it then it can go pretty quick.........if you fill it up and take it to the track and do lets say 5 runs it would probably be half gone......

as far as what is harder on your motor.....well.....it goes like this.....the more air you put in the motor the more fuel you can add......the colder you can make the charge of air the more you can play with the timing.......detonation is what you're trying to prevent.......methanol acts like a octane booster by lowering the air temps....the best way I can describe this is take some rubbing alcohol and put it on your skin and then blow on it.....you'll feel it become cooler.....well....that's what methanol is doing.....nitrous is kinda accomplishing the same thing.........
