LS1 boost levels, trying to get this straight.

ok from my research i have found that an ls1 can only take 8 lbs of boost stock, but an ls2 can take 12... what is it about the ls1 that you can only put 8 lbs to it stock? i have heard many different things about why this is, first is the head bolts, i was told if i switch to head studs i would be able to run more boost, have heard it is because of the alum block/heads and that they will melt... i am just trying to get this straight, what do i have to do to run more than 8lbs of boost? i am only running 5 lbs right now on a centrifugal vortech, and as soon as i find out what i have to do the part ordering begins. thanks in advance

I don't know about the 12 psi on th LS2,but the weak point on the LS1 is the piston ring lands(where the rings rests).Talking from experiance.

Is this true about the LS2 being able to handle that much boost on a stock set-up?

Why would 5.7 verses 6.0 make more boost - Bigger means more ??

Boost is a measurement of restriction.

I know from personal experience (not my car, but a friends) that the LS1 can handle 12-13 PSI. But not for very long. It is all in the tune if it will last 1K miles or 10K miles.

I would assume the ringlands are a weak point on the LS2 as well.
I know that is the main weak point of the LS1.

    LS1 - 10.1:1 static compression
    LS2 - 10.9:1 static compression

I would think the LS2 would have more trouble (unless you just dump fuel at it and really lower timing) than the LS1 running 8+ PSI.
Unless of course...it has a more solid piston in it.

I was thinking about the strength of the block - I read somewhere that it had better/more webbing built into the casting

Same friend is now running forged internals on his stock LS1 block. 12-13PSI, making 700RWHP.
