    blower???

i was talking to my buddy today about my plans to the BIRD........he came up with suggestion of just putting a vortech kit on instead of all the motor work. already have full exhaust and getting intake soon....is it worth it or do i just spend the bit more and do motor work....pros/cons??.....suggestions??

    thanks,
    Andrew

with a procharger the install will be easier, and you require less upgraded parts...

i have a vortech, it works, not as good as a procharger, but mine came on the car so i wont get rid of it, lol

p.s. your looking to spend well over 6k that is if you install it your self.

the kit its self costs i think 5k and thats not aftercooler(which i strongly recommend, thats another 1,500, fuel injectors at lest some 42#. upgrade the fuel pump, and MUST get a tune.

then if you want to up the boost anymore then 8lbs(thats with the aftercooler) 6PSI on non aftercooled your going to have to forge the engine.

but they are great systems if you want to build some serious power. i say go for it!!!

Your better off with the Procharger, it comes with the intercoolers and everything you need.

I've had a D1 set up on my car for a couple of years no real problems. As with any blower you have to be willing to mess with it here & there. I will say the intercoolers supplied by ATI are not real effective. I dumped them early on in favor of a front mount. Just remember you must upgrade the fuel pump & injectors + find a good tuner to get it run correctly. It doesn't hurt to have scanning/tuning software & learn how to use it.

since a nice h+c setup is cheaper for now, i was thinking on doing that first. are there any particular setups that will work better w/ a blower???

yes there are... i dont know what exactly the specs are for running boost, but certain h.c. combos are basically designed for turbos, nitrous, blower, etc... those combos will still give u really good n.a. numbers until u put boost on them, but they are optimal for running boost. if u just pick a random cam with great peak hp and torque, it may not even work with boost...

im not an expert so i dont know about which kinds to buy, but dont get a h/c combo that isnt made for boost if u plan on forced induction. example of n/a power with a boost set up: a 383 lt1 i know of made over 400rwhp on a h/c combo that was set up for boost. so dont get scared away from those combos thinking u HAVE to have boost right away...

hopefully someone else can help you more with what kinds to get etc, but now you know there ARE certain ones u should get

He is correct, im looking to do the same thing. I too am looking for a good head/cam combo that compliments a blower. Comp makes blower grind line of cams, I talked to gunnar at Patriot and he recomended his LQ9 heads. I will probably go with the heads he recomended and then select a blower grind cam from comp.

Stock heads, have a mild cam/comp 918 valve springs, headers, true duals. It made 505 thru the 6 speed & 4.10 9", haven't dynoed since the TH400 & switch to 3.50 gears.

assuming that you build up the ls1 with forged internals, how much boost can you get out of a procharger

someone has told me that the composite manifolds balloon under boost. is that true. what would be better that a FAST manifold.....keep in mind that the car is a weekend car, will see the track occasionally, and will ocassionally get its arse kicked..........
