    1 bar MAP and turbos

I was talking with a guy that programs ECMs, and he stated that for boost levels of 7-8psi, that he can easily program the computer to run with a 1 bar MAP sensor. How is this possible? How can the computer detect the boost?

This guy is a pro, so I am sure there is something I am missing, but I don't know what.

    Thanks.

once the map sensor is maxed 0.5 psi or so the computer goes into pe mode allowing u to tune it a lil bit depending on the ecm

Do you get more tunability with the 2 bar MAP? Otherwise, why use it if you can tweak in PE mode?

if the ecm can be made to read a 2 bar map yes u get alot more tuneability
tuning it in pe mode with a 1 bar sensor is pretty much only tuned for wot/max boost.
the ecm does not know if u are at 2 psi or 7 psi, it only knows that u have gone above the map limit

Not sure why he'd want to use a 1 bar sensor....these are typically just for N/A cars.........would be curious as to his reasoning on this one......think I'd ask some more questions on that.....

the onyl reason to tune with a 1 bar map would be if the stock ecm couldnot use a 2bar+ map and would only see low boost.

1 bar is tunable until you max the MAF around 512g/sec. Then it's time for a 2 or 3 bar speed density setup.
