    world's largest army

The world's largest army...America's hunters! I had never thought about this....

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin. Allow me to restate that number. 600,000.

Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. More men under arms than in Iran. More than in France and Germany combined. These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

    *************************************************

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

I'm sure we have a few hundred thousand here in Oklahoma as well. This doesn't even count those who collect guns, those who hunt animals other than deer, those who shoot for sport, etc.

    Good stats, steelerfan!

You're right, these stats are just the tip of the iceberg.
BTW,I don't know that making it to the Superbowl would be considered to actually suck, haha

Texas has 600-650,000 just like the other states. Your state may be bigger but we have just as many hunters

You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. Isoroku Yamamoto. Still holds true even today.

The FBI estimates that there are over 200 million privately-owned firearms in the US. If you add those owned by the military, law enforcement agencies and museums, there is probably about 1 gun per person in the country.
If you want to get a rough idea of how many guns there are out there just look at how many people you see out there then multiply by a factor of estimated ownership. The last best guess was about 350,000,000 Total. That would be 1 weapon for every man woman and child. The average gun enthusiast owns several firearms which includes pistols, shotguns, and rifles of all makes and models. It is often estimated that about 1 in 4 people own any firearms and on average firearms owners own 4 guns each.

Just a little more food for thought!!

Hey, az has a very important role. we are gonna be the first line of defense if they invade the west coast. Gonna need to be marksman to shoot around all the californians hugging them. Well, I'll TRY and shoot around them.

I know alot of hunters. Just because they have guns doesnt mean they would rise up against an opposing army. Nor would they be any competent if they did. Untrained hunters with single shot rifles or shotguns are no match against trained forces with auto weapons, tanks and so on.
Then you must remember America is now all about me me and me, not the larger collective as it once was.

too many sheep and fudds, nowadays... sad.

the positive is recruitment efforts by the NRA, the NSSF, SCI, and numerous others have helped get youth involved in hunting again, and bring women into hunting and self-defense.
