    Semi-Auto .22's

Been toying with the idea of getting a semi-auto .22 rifle. Obvious choices are the Ruger 10/22, the S&W M&P 15-22, and the Remington 597.

I really like the AR look of the S&W, but the prices of the Remington are very affordable.

I've not researched the guns and dont know much about them other than that the 10/22 is one of the most popular actions out there, but if Im going to spend 200-250$ on an action, why not just spend the 500 for the S&W that is already where I want to end up anyhow?

Because the 10/22 is still less than half the price of the S&W.

Spend the money on ammo and trigger time. Or use the extra $$ add a Browning Buckmark to your stock and practice both rifle and pistol on the .22.

If you want an AR, save your bones and get an AR.

    My $.02.

    Agree,

If your gonna spend 500 on a .22 just save 300 more and buy a .223 for 800.

Any rifle .22 will shoot just as straight as these AR .22s and sig .22s just at half the price. And when your at the range and people are admiring your gun they wont laugh and walk away when they realize you bought a 500 dollar .22 assault rifle.

The Ruger 10/22 is the best choice. The reason I say that is all the aftermarket options you have out there for it. And the price of ammo for it. I bought my 10/22 used for 125. I have replaced just about everything. And can shot it all day long. You can buy 500 rounds for 20 bucks...

    after...

Marlin 60 is a better gun out of the box than the ruger. And the only accessory you need for a 22 rifle, is ammunition.

Nice guns, everyone. I appreciate the advice.

The 10/22 stock doesn't fit me (thats why there's aftermarket), and the 597 does. I've not held an S&W yet. This isn't one going to be anything I go buy anytime soon, it's just that every time I get into the gun shop I get a little giddy and want to buy something.

I'd get the ruger or something similar. We had a S&W .22 and it wouldn't cycle the cheap non plated .22LR for shit. pop pop jam, pop pop jam. The rugers eat anything and ask for more.

Paid a little over 600 and that included all the rails and collapsable stock. Bought the red dot sight for 90.
