Quick and easy gun question...
I bought a Kel Tec PF9 last week. I carry it every day and I was wondering if it would be ok to just leave it chambered all of the time in my safe. I'm getting tired of unloading, dry firing, then repeating the process every single day. Thought?

i know lots of people that carry with one chambered 24-7
nothing wrong at all
i choose to not chamber one because of my kids
if you carry cocked and locked why would you unchamber it to put in the safe for the night?

It's a hammerless DAO gun. I'm not sure about leaving tension on the striker all of the time.
My home defense gun is a Springfield XDm .40 with night sights so I put the baby blaster up every night

Survey says this is completely fine. I carry my 1911's cocked and locked and store them that way as well and my M&P stays loaded. The only time I unload is to transport to and from the range or to clean.
YMMV as I have no kids and I am the only one with access to my safe

Nice! I'm glad someone corrected the clip-mag confusion...anyway...I've heard the same thing. That if you leave a magazine loaded it will overtime weaken the spring. I have owned lots of weapons and been issued several more. Most all of my personal stuff stays loaded. Never had a problem with any magazines. My police department weapons- Loaded 24-7 and never had any problems. My military weapons-during deployments loaded 24-7. I've had a few 5.56 magazines that the springs seem to have gotten weak. My 9mm mags that were issued...about half of them that were loaded for several months had miss-feeds when I did fire them. The ones I bought personally I have never had a problem with being loaded for extended periods of time. I guess my experience is that cheaper stuff may have issues. I guess it's you get what you pay for.
As far as leaving a weapon loaded, I've never had a firearm that I regularly maintained and purchased reliable ammo for not go boom when I squeezed the trigger. I clean any weapon that I carry regularly at least once a month and most of the times once every few weeks. As long as you maintain the weapon you should be fine leaving it loaded. Think about all the professionals who carry weapons who go for months or even years with loaded and cocked weapons. Unload them and disassemble them for a good cleaning and oiling every now and then and you should be fine.Last edited by IH8EVRY1; 07-11-2010 at 03:18 PM. Reason: Added something

Ive always heard that and common sense will tell you constant compression on a spring could weaken it.
But who knows if it is true.I do change my MAGS out every few months or when I think about it just for shits and giggles.
I do know Ive had to replace old springs in MAGS that were not feeding properly due to being weak so there could be some method to the madness.Last edited by dpinson; 07-13-2010 at 02:07 PM.

In a pinch, a handgun is an expensive rock if its unloaded. Unloaded a longgun is an expensive stick!
