    Windows Update Error

Another computer problem. So I'm having a problem with the automatic windows update. This one is 22 long and gets stuck/frozen on 8. I'm assuming that one of the files is corrupted? I've Googled the solutions, tried system restore, etc. When I tried system restore, I got an error and Windows was unable to load, so I had to recover it. I didn't want to try that again, as I don't want to lose all my stuff. If I stick it out and wait for the next Windows update..should this go away?

do you know which update was problematic?.. if so, you could try just downloading/installing all 21 othe updates (assuming you want all of them), ...leave the problematic one "unchecked" in the windows update list of pending updates...

BTW, in doing this you'll probably have to "disable" the "automatic" updating in windows update, ...(which is what I do, as I prefer to know what it's doing, by way of me manually selecting the updates to download/install at my choosing )...

False alarm...apparently it's a REALLY big update and the computer just needs to run until it's finished. To make a long story short, when I left for dinner the computer was still recovering Windows. When I got home and logged in, my current Windows had been restored and I shut down the computer again. This time the Windows update stated there were only 19, and it processed fine.

...be careful not to disturb it while in the process of installing the updates!

I just went through the tedious process of tearing down one of my laptops back to a fresh install of Win7, and also just purchased a new laptop, uninstalled crap I don't want or use (which surprisingly this time around, HP left out a shit ton of bloatware ) and had to go through the Windows updates marathon on two computers

I do auto updates, but I install what I want. I don't give Windows full control of anything.

Same here. It's better to have options. You can pick out the right updates this way.

Yeah, and with Win 10, I trust Windows even less...
