Thumbs down What is wrong w/my network?

Router is wired to the desktop. That always works fine.

Whenever I turn on the laptop it will never sign onto the wireless network unless I unplug router then plug it back in. I have gone through all the MS repair options 50 times never fixes it. I turned windows firewall off still no good. Only will work once I unplug the router then plug it back in.

    Ideas?

Unplug as in power? What brand of router? Have you logged into the router using a network cable and checked its settings? Use a cable, and depending on the brand, go to http:\\192.167.1.1 (could be 1.0 or 0.1 depending on brand). This will let you log in to the router. Login and P/w depends on the brand. Sorry can't help much without knowing the entire setup.
I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

What OS are you using? How are you connecting the wireless? Did you do a manual connect or let windows do the setup?

Yes, unplug power. I'll have to check the settings again tomorrow, but I haven't changed them & this started all of s sudden.

I don't think this will correct the issue but try this.

    Click on Run...

    At Run type.... CMD

You will get a C: prompt

    At the prompt C:\ipconfig /flushdns

You should get a message that it was flushed..

Back at the prompt type.... C:\ipconfig /registerdns

It should go thru the registration process...

Once done reboot and see what happens...

how old is the router, ...what brand/model?

reason i ask is i have never had a router "last" more than like 2 years,... they always tend to start acting wierd, make noises, ..intermittent power/etc... i don't think these are well-made electronics, generally.. unfortunately, the best solution is to buy a new one.
