Vista SP1 Firewall
Any 3rd party firewalls worth a damn? Any specifically say they work with SP1 installed in Vista?

I've got Norton Internet Security and run Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I had McAffee before and switched. So far no problems and it's been just over a year and I also have SP1 installed.

Software firewall = waste of resources
Use a hardware base firewall if you have a system that really needs protection
You can tweak Vista's firewall to be quite effective if you're so inclined

ZA for VISTA is a POS. Freeze up city and lots of post about it all over the internet. Well...I'll stick with my router/Vista Firewall until a 3rd party can do better....Ive tried Comodo/ZA/PC Tools Firewall and all have issues.....

Just take an old desktop with XP, strip out ALL the crap, and place it between your router and the computer you want to protect. Add zone alarm or whatever firewall you want to the xp computer and tweak it however you want. Then disable the firewall in Vista.
The end result will be a that you have a functional software based firewall located between the machine you want to protect and the internet (which is the proper location for it), plus the hardware based protection of your router.
A software based firewall on the machine you are using and want to protect is simply not the proper way to implement a firewall, despite what software companies want you to believe.2002 Street ET Champion New England Dragway

ok are you using vista business or home edition ? i bet the reason your computer is freezing could be 1. problems with ZA running with the raised permissions...or its having issues with the windows firewall...whenever installing a third party firewall...its best to physically disabled the windows firewall..through the security center..and through the services.msc..that should help.
