    Mexican killed my car

    Video card question

I have a dell dimension 8400 with a 3.4 processor, 1 gig of ram, and a radeon x800 se video card. (I'm 90% sure that is the video card i got, not sure how to check it).

I ordered 2 more gigs of ram from newegg the other day to bump me up to 3gigs total. I haven't installed it yet.

I had some extra money and was wondering if i should look at replacing my video card or not.

It seems to work fine now, i don't really use my computer for gaming although i do like to play flight-sim 2004, doom 3, or a simcity type game every now and then. I seem to remember that when i played doom 3 or black and white 2 the screen would kind of freeze for a second every now and then if i moved real fast and i had the graphics all the way up. I don't know if that was a video card issue or a ram issue.

I can live with what i have, but since i have some extra money laying around i figured i might look into future-proofing things. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot, i figured since mine is around 4 years old i might be able to find a better one that is pretty cheap.

If you want to check, do this:

    Go to Start, then Run

In the Run window, type dxdiag

Your graphics card should display on the "Display" tab.

you need to find out what expansion slot you have for graphics cards.. if you have a x800 it is prolly AGP and you won't find too many of the new cards made in AGP.. you may be done with that computer as that x800 is a few generations old now (i had that card when it was new and it is not sitting in my 2nd rig) and it has a hard time running newer games. will be hard to future proof any computer much less one that is 4 years old...
