    Start up programs

Our home computer is running Windows Vista. Where do I need to go to remove all the uneccesary crap that is loaded on startup. I think it was "regedit" or something like that on my older operating systems.

It is under system properties... Under the advance tab. But that is just OS startup. Are you talking thing that launch at start? You can always download Power Toys for Vista and config the startup. Or you can download CC Cleaner (just google cc cleaner) and control the startup config there also. Regedit will let you make the changes, but the wrong change can be very harmfull.

If I remember right -- I just need to limit the crap that "pre-loads" in the background so it is available faster. The kids get the machine junked up with stuff and I go delete it. But there are still things loading as our start up takes quite a while now.

I could give you the path in the registry if you would like Jeff. Just hit me up with a PM if you need it..

DL CC Cleaner and you can adjust it all that way as well.

start > msconfig > startup, just dont disable drivers. Look for items like adobe, java, quicktime, messengers to disable.

That's it! In XP, you could type that in the "RUN" box -- but on Vista that option is gone. I didn't realize typing it in the "Start Search" box would work and had forgotten the actual command. Thank you!

Actually, just right click the start button and click on properties... Then click on customize, scroll down and check the box to enable the run command dialogue.
