My wife is in need of a laptop, nothing powerful, just a mobile word processor. Needs an internal DVD burner and we're hoping to keep it at the $800/$1000 level (or less if possible). Would prefer a 17"

what do you suggest?

If you're still looking, Dell has a 17" Inspiron w/DVD burner starting at $499. I've never used this specific machine but have used other Inspiron laptops and had no problems.
