Internet explorer doesnt work on my laptop

If i load of IE/aol explorer as my web browser, the main page will come up but then it just freezes. I close IE out and use Mozilla Firefox with no problems at all. Any ideas? Im fine with using firefox but I can't help but be curious why IE doesnt work anymore

first let me say that it could be any one of a million things because of the way that IE is tied in with the OS... i would go to add/remove programs and delete java, flash and any other app that would be used to view webpage content. i would then look at what plugins are installed and remove them from the plugin folder. i do not have an XP box ready to go right now or else i would tell you exactly where the folder is.. i will boot on up later and post the info if you still need it.

hope this helps some. make sure to check for spyware and the like.

Could be a gazillion things but...

From the run line try: iexplore -extoff

This should start internet explorer without any addons. If it works, then you will need to figure out which add on it causing the problem, or which combination of add ons are creating your issue.

Of course it could also be many other things but if it is only IE that is having the issue, this method can help you diagnose and correct the problem.

Which IE and which OS? Makes a huge difference!

Could be a virus, bad add-on. Or, it could just be that Microsoft SUCKS and their patches have a tendency to *****up many things - including IE. And, even doing an uninstall and/or a system restore may not undo the MicroSUCKS mess.

You could also try installing IE7/IE8. Ha, ha, ha. IMHO, people are better off playing Russian Roulette verses trying to install Ie7 or IE8 on an existing system.

BTW: SP3 is/was infamous for screwing up IE on many systems. And, also screwing up many many other things.
