    Question Decently priced wireless router?

With my new laptop, Xbox 360, and possible PS3 it is getting a little annoying switching network cables. Looking for a 4 port wireless router that will not break the college bank. Range is not a concern since everything will be located in the same room.

For networking into several different type media components...that's what the new 802.11n mimo routers are for. Plus they out perform the 802.11g units as mentioned above. Here's a hell of a deal on a "n" box. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=WNR854T-100NAR

I am on my second WRT54GS and both of them are POS. The first one wouldn't work regardless of what setting I used and the second one the wireless function croaked. Now everything is hardwired. The Linksys products I used in the past (5 years ago) were awesome plug and play.

Please describe the problems YOU have with a refurbished model.

The thread is about finding a good router at a decent price. Not the sales pitch from the best buy geek squad that got you to buy a virgin, more expensive router.

This unit here was recommended to me and it is very tempting, around $30 bucks for an N router.

    But it's a Lynksys

Since Cisco took over things are not the same & at $80 plus shipping it's not a deal

This is what I have set up at my house:

    http://www.netgear.com/Products/Rout...s/WNR834B.aspx

You can buy it right from their site as well. $89.99.

I bought it a little less than 1 year ago, and it has worked great the entire time. I bought it new from Best Buy for either $99, or just over $100, I don't remember and I can't find the receipt.

I am running my Xbox 360 on this, and 2 wireless laptops in the house as well. Haven't had any problems yet.

Some of us are rich and buy everything new at MSRP and not discounted, just for the principle of it to show we have boatloads of money to throw around.

    Not me though

cisco ha bought out linksys so quality is good. with that being said i have a lniksys wrt160N...its a good router...pretty painless install..make sure you upgrade the firmware...a good thing about the new wrt series ..or a newer router over the 54s is the ability to run not only wPA2 personal security but WPA2 Enterprise..which doesnt matter to most..but for a buisness with a radius server it allows for a extra layer of authentication..so long story short..wrt160n is a great router..my mom and i have one. Do not go with a G router..outdated now and with a ps3 i believe they have N...i need to check mine....i wouldnt worry about mimo either since coverage with the N draft is really good anyways and most will not tax a router/bandwidth enough to warrant a mimo N or even a dual band N

and like always when gaming etc..always use a wire if you can !!! wireless is not very reliable for large bandwidth sessions..... as my network sits with the wrt160n set up..i have my ps3 wired, (soon will have my wii wired(its wireless right now)) and soon my 360 wired with my labtop and g/f's labtop going wireless..those common devices have a set static ips..and everything else gets dhcp...the security is wpa2 personal (anything else is useless) with a shifted 10+ character password and the network is not broadcast..however i think i am getting a little tooo deep for the OPs question..but just wanted to show you that the wrt160n has alot of options for a very secure and reliable network
