yeah, they call them aerial (aerial photography) pictures or orthos that get pulled based on the zoom level, and x and y rectangle coordinates. go to www.dfwmaps.com , I used to work for those folks, they contract once a year for a plane to fly over DFW area and save terrabytes of aerial maps. then organize them into a framework based on zoom, x and y positioning on that frame canvas which makes the map frame. a mini google earth for Dallas area etc...

idk, it goes horizontal without loosing any perception or realism at all, i'm not convinced yet that this is a fake

they actually get compiled into a video, but took many pics with an egg shape camera for 270 degrees or 360 degrees pics. have you ever seen those "virtual walk through" videos for some homes for sale... they use a special type of camera that get panoramic 360 degree pics and then take hundreds of pics at different depth or zoom levels at very small time intervals prob milliseconds. then compiles it into a virtual video where you can pan and zoom the camera... same thing here. it's a really good camera used here but not Giga I highly doubt it,.
